Unhappy Fl Student Tazored while asking a ?

A little news clip I just ran across. What a shame, the student asked a question and John Kerry said he would answer as the cops drag him down and tazer him......... Uh, I must have missed something. Please discuss.

Subject seems political, well i know i can not answer with my thoughts because they would violate the UA

if its just good old cop bashing your looking for yes they use excessive force on students. it happens all the time.

Without seeing what the guy was doing/saying before, it's hard to determine if pulling him out was justifiable, but it does seem a little premature, especially since it sounds like Sen. Kerry said he would answer his question. Tasering seemed extreme.

I went to a lecture by Sen. John McCain last year, and there was of course the one student that had to try to cause a stir.

Sorry I disagree with the abusive cops remark. Unless you have done this job and know this job don't judge the cops. Those who usually critcize wouldn't go into half the places we patrol let alone enforce the laws.

Nah not looking for a cop bashing, thats not my point.

I wanted to share it with other people because many of them have kids in college. It might be something for them to share with there children. Obviously he was asking tough questions but somewere a line was crossed and from that tape I dont see how he crossed it. I am curious as to others opinion.

No I havent done that job, but I did go to college and took part in debates plus a few question and answer sesions with politicians I liked/disliked. None of them ended like that and some of them had acutal "bad" questions. I don't think it is possible to justify their actions based on the route they might once have had.

Here is the full version. This is a little more clear on why they were trying to keep him quiet.

Well I'm not sure we can keep calm enough to stay open, but we can try.

Personally if cops are escorting you out (right or wrong) you should probably go. He obviously was resisting, and I see no reason any of those cops were at fault.

There are too many variables we do not know about to judge. I agree about the 4th amendment right we all have. Many have died to ensue us of those rights. Unfortunately we do not know the whole story. Regardless of that I am sure the cops were there for security, who would volunteer for a stint in such a powder keg.

I think he was playing it up for the cameras, and he was resisting. It's not like they shot him.

Yea ill agree on that, he should have just gone. Thats always the best choice.

They had him on the ground, pinned for several seconds, why not just cuff him. There was plenty of force available to just put him in hand cuffs. He looks like a can lifter and not a wieght lifter. The big officer picked him up and took him to the back of the room. I figured the tazer was left for when there is an actual threat.

Thank you dc for letting us try, we can be good =] I hope.

Yes, you're right. Because a grainy video that's so shaky you can't even tell what's going on will give us 100% perspective on what happened!

No we don't get 100% perspective but we do get a good idea. If a picture is worth 1000 words then a video is worth ~32,000 words per second and thats a lot

Law enforcement can search you for weapons if he or she has reasonable grounds to suspect that you may attack him, her or another person, it is a judgment call for the officer. If you resist then charges can be made against you. Most lawyers will tell you even if you are 10000000000% innocent don't resist period. JMO

There are many other videos floating around the net. To sum up what happend...

A student was asking Kerry a question but ran out of time (if anyone of you have been to a public meeting you only have a certain amount of minutes you use). They told him is time was out and the student got mouthy. So they turned off his mic and he really got upset. Since the student was starting a temper tantrum the police started to escort him out. THAT was when he started resisting. The police wrestled him to the floor where he was really throwing a fit like a 3 year old. Granted, they could have just cuffed him and took him outside, but they didn't.

The end result was that he was tazered NOT for asking a question, but for resisting an officer. At that point it doesn't matter what your reasoning behind resisting is.

Are you kidding? You can't even see 90% of what happened once they tried to escort him out. For all we know, he tried to grab one of their guns, pulled a knife, or who know what else. I'm not saying he DID do those things, I'm just saying it is absolutely impossible to have ANY clue whatsoever.

Thusly, I declare that this thread has become completely useless with concerns to the original topic. From this point forward, only posts containing Monty Python references will be tolerated.
