Coral Dip

I am starting to pick up more corals, mostly zoas, on line from people I dont know. The more I read about nudis and other such nasties I know I need to start dipping them. I have read about FW dips, hot FW dip, Lugios iodine, FWE and many other suggestions.
What do you guys suggest?

Lugols. Basically any of the OTC dips you get are lugol's with something else. I use the Lugol and everthing is just fine

Is this the Lugol's that people are talking about? How do you mix it. FW or tank water? Most people say add more than directed but how much? How long do you leave the corals in the dip? Do you just put them in the display afterwards?

Lugol's Solution

That's it. I use FW and double the dosage on the bottle. I only dip zoas, but I leave them in for about 3-5 minutes. It seems to have worked every time I have tried it.

Thats the stuff. I follow the 2L tank water and double drops method. I try to but a small powerhead in there to keep it moving. Then I'll give them a good swish in the dip. Sometimes I have a second container of tank water to "wrinse" them in before putting back into the tank.

Much better to be proactive, Scott. I had zoo eating nudis at one time and they are no fun.

lugols and fw dip helps but you got to watch for the eggs.

this is not my pic. dips do not destroy the eggs. you have to manually look for them and scrape them off or brush them suckers off. get your flashlight and start looking. helps when the polyp is close. good luck.

That is what I am thinking. Getting frags from club members I wasn't as worried. Getting from someone in CA or something makes me more nervous.

Seems like everyone uses lugol's but in different strengths. Would it be ok to just make a gallon of dip and use it as needed. Would it have a shelf life?
