plexi baffles in a glass tank

if possible, what do you use to seal plexi baffles in a glass tank?

Just get glass... more reliability and silicone easily seals it.

I used TEC7 to glue them on.

I have plexi baffles in my sump and it is glass. i did not want glass because the edges are sharp. the plexi stays in there fine with a bead of silicon on each side. i had to cut one out to make room for a bigger skimmer and it was a pain to get out so i think they seal pretty good.

I also used plexi in a glass tank. I used 2 tubes of GE 100% silicone for only 4 baffles. Looks ugly, but they are not moving.

The only problem i see is that with time plexi glass gets brittle so they might break.

The real problem with plexi is that it absorbs water and expands. You have to make sure to leave plenty of expansion space between the plexi and the glass. I had a 40B that I managed to squeeze a 1/4" plexi wall into and due to the compression that was already there (I figured it would help keep it in place after the silicone seperates)... the tank was forced apart at the seams... the side of the tank cracked due to the pressure. On another, the glass didnt crack, but was pushed out, seperating it from the panels it was connected to at the seams. And this was even after I had tried to leave expansion space, and cast acrylic which expands less.

I try to go with glass now as much as possible, but sometimes its just not practical... for instance... if you have a baffle that you want to have holes drilled into... acrylic is just waaay easier/cheaper to use.

Second the motion for glass baffles. Plexi worked great for me for over a year. Silicon bond to the plexi gradually weakened until the plexi gradually started shifting. Yes I used plenty of silicon but it still started slipping toward side with lower water level. Pulled it all down and replaced it with glass before it became a problem.

i just replaced my 40b sump/fuge with 1/4" plexi baffles because they started to blow out at the seems after 2 yrs. Do it once and do it right-learn from others that have tried and failed.
Call up a glass shop in your area and have them cut you the pieces you need. It wont be that expensive and they will adhere much better to the glass tank.
