I transferred the sand from my old reef into the frag tank. Having the eggcrate on the bottom glass was trapping too much detritus and it had to go. Here are a couple updated shots. More to follow in the next few days hopefully. Thanks for looking.

Ricordia yuma I got at a recent frag swap.

Sweet frag tank...I would love to have something like that. Can you still keep the tank at or under 80 with that light?

Thanks a lot Exotic. Depending on the ambient room temperature it sometimes goes to 81, but that's not too high.

Part of my GSPE colony had been in the shade so I fragged it up a few days ago. Here are some of the frags waiting to color up.

When and why did you add sand (shell) to the tank floor? Still running skimmerler? I am hitting 85degrees in my 29g with just 144w PC lighting. I have a MJ1200 and some tiny little PH thats like 100gph plus my return pump thats 210gph so three small pumps and I cannot keep the temp down. How are you not hitting higher temps?

I added the sand at the beginning of March. I took out the bottom layer of eggcrate because it was trapping a LOT of detritus that I couldn't syphon out I had some sand from another tank that I was tearing down and figured some of my livestock would appreciate a sandbed to hang out in. I'm quite pleased with it actually. Most of my SPS have colored up more since the addition. It also gives the opportunity for more microfauna to reproduce. Yes I'm still not using a skimmer. Some days it would be nice to have one, but on such a small tank it would be obtrusive. Last night one of my Acan echinatas decided to eat one of my Favites. A skimmer would have helped in that situation. The tank is open-top and my ambient room temp rarely gets above 73. Those both play a large role in keeping the temps down. Your 29g is pretty much enclosed I assume..that would make your temp higher. Also, some kinds of powerheads heat up more than others. Maybe you could pick up some more efficient ones that could help.

Several months ago an Acan came into my LFS that I wanted but one of the employees bought it instead. He knew I wanted it so when his light and filter quit working he let me buy it. It needs a little TLC, but I really like it regardless. Here's what it looked like originally under the stores 20k halide.

Here's what it looks like now under my 10k.

Thanks a lot Steve. I say give the GSPE's as much light as you can. IME the higher they are the better they look.

Here are a couple color comparison shots. This is a Green Slimer Acropora when the tank had no sand.

Here is the same frag after adding sand. The sand was the only difference.

Personally I prefer the sand.

We had a local frag swap last night. Here are some shots of the new stuff.

Pocillopora(i believe) I am VERY excited about this one. It's red with purple polyps. Great potential. I'll probably frag it into a couple of pieces in case something happens to one piece.

Orange Zoanthids on the right and some blues I got last week on the left.

Here's a big mushroom that's going into my new 10g reef.

Baby yuma's.

Some other blues I got a couple of weeks ago.

RPE's I've had for a month or two that are trying to grow.

\

That's all for now. Enjoy!!

nugz, great pics, that is an amazing collection you have going there! What are the discs made of that you are gluing your frags too, and where do you get them from?

Mark- Thanks a lot. The round disks are some sort of concrete mix I guess. I'm not sure what they are exactly. I'll get the name of them for you tomorrow. The other tiles are marble tile.

These are the concrete? disks.

These are the marble tiles.

Grunt- I appreciate it. I'm excited to see what the Pocillopora grows into.

nugz, thanks for the info. I've been fortunate enough to have some of the corals in my tank split / grow, I hope to encourage this further.
