hot glue on sps or zoas?

Anyone ever try hot glue on sps or zoas? Super glue gel is getting pretty expensive. Just a thought.

I'd worry about the high temperature.

How much do you pay for CA?

Couple bucks at HD or Wally's, but I hate working with it, tubes always reseal themselves...CA pretty much sucks, but what do you do. I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried it, and was successful.

Yeah, it can be a pain to work with. But AFAIK it's the best thing out there for the job.

You could always do your own experiment with hot glue to see if it works. I would worry about the heat, though.

For SPS the heat would kill any tissue close to the glue just like epoxy putty does when it reacts and hardens (causing heat) The tissue eventually grows back. I'm pretty sure zoas wouldn't stand a chance with those temps.

I know CA is the best, cost aside, I was wondering if anyone has tried it. If not I will, and see what happens. I am sure a few zoas wouldn't mind being involved in an experiment.

How bout a low temp hot glue gun? I know the hot glue guns get up to like 250 degrees, but you can glue foam with the low temps and now even melt it. Any thoughts?

It's worth a try.

You also need to consider the possibility it will break down in saltwater, and could release stuff into the water.

But I think it's worth trying.

I saw a thread about using it to build an aquarium, and the same question was asked, and it turns out it is basically just plastic. Several sources including a manufacturer said it was safe for this application. Low temp hot glue guns are what they use in schools so the kids can not burn themselves. I may go but one.

Definitely.

Try to use as little as possible and submerge them ASAP after glueing, to minimize the 'burn time.'

Let us know how it goes
