Unhappy Silver Xenia Help

Hi all. I have ,or should i say had, two frags of silver xenia that was in my tank for about 6 months. It was doing really go and never had any problems with it. It didn't grow as much as my other xenia. Two days ago it suck down or deflated and never reinflated. I feed my trumpet this morning and noticed that the silver xenia had a brownish yellow sore on the center of the trunk on both xenia's and they both seemed to be loosing their arms or branches. I remove both of them from my tank. I did not want to rick the rest of my corals. My water pram's are fine. Temp is 79 - 81, salinaty 1.026, ph 8.3 - 8.4. Does anyone have an idea what this was or if any of my other corals can be affected.

I do run carbon, protien skimmer, and a large refugium. My other corals are: Red hairy mushrom, frog spawn, pink pulsing xenia, trumpet, and green star polyp. Any help is welcome.

You didnt say the most important one...nitrates? What are they? More often than not, thats what kills corals.

Some people can grow it like weeds, others cant. Simple as that.

And yeah if ur xenia is losing its heads or tentacles then it is dying. mine started out like that as well, but it survived and is still doing grat in my tank.

That seems to happen, for some reason I can only find two patches of the silver xenia (elongata) in my tank, I had too much of it at one point, but my other xenia still fine, I can see small polyps of the silver coming back up, not sure what happened but I don't really care that much, my tank it's overun by the pulsing one I have them for almost 3 years now

I just finish a water test and my nitrates, nitrites and ammonia are all 0. My LFS suggested that xenia's can go through a die off period for on reason.

Got any leather corals in your tank? If not try getting some for some reason I have noticed that somehow the leathers release chemicals that the xenia love. That is my suggestion.

hm...maybe that has some truth behind it, because i've got a bunch of leathers in my tank and my xenia grows crazy. Actually about a week ago i injected one stalk of xenia w/vinegar to kill it cuz it was growing on my green toadstool.
