strong water flow

Folks,

I put a Hydro Koralia 4 (1200gph) + Maxjet1200 in my 70G tank. I found that my sand bed got a little disturbed. Is this overflow too strong for a 70G tank? In fact, I just received two Koralia modle 4 power heads. I am worry about too much flow, so I leave one unused. Appreciate any suggestion.

I kind of have the same question so I’ll be keeping my eye on this thread. I’m looking to upgrade to a 75g and was also wondering if two Hydor Koralia #2’s would be too much flow. Do you like your Hydor Koralia powerhead? Any pro’s or con’s you want to share?

Well let me just say that it is very hard to have too much flow. If you have ever been in a reef it is very hard to not get thrown around with all the movement.

I think the Koralia 4 are very good. It is totally silent. I used to use two MaxJet1200. I tried put two Koralia 4 this afternoon, and I found that the flow seems too much for my BTA anemone. Also my sandbed got disturbed much (maybe because I did not set up well the flow direction). Thus I took one out and put one MaxJet back in. I have been waiting for about 1 month to get this order. They are always out of stock.

Koralia pump looks bit bigger, especially in my 70G tank. However, I don't care. I already think to update to a bigger tank now.

From the experience that I've had with my reef, the higher flow is definitely beneficial. I have accepted that the sand in the front of the tank will be disrupted because the beneficial results that I've seen with the health of the coral in my reef makes that downside worth it. I have increased the amount of flow on repeated occasions and each time the overall appearance and health of the reef has improved. Just about every coral I've kept has responded well with thte exception of a hammer.
