I would look into internal parasites first. Interceptor should have no effect on the fish because of how it works.

aruba1334 had an elaborate QT process for anthias because of these problems.....his 1050g system had alot of anthias in the end. Perhaps he has some suggestions. http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...5&pagenumber=1

Well, when you live in the boonies as far as fish stores are concerned, its not easy to get fish without having them shipped.

Took out the tomini, and now the duncansapomia can finally open up again.

I tried to get the fish store to order me a Vroliki (Half Black) Mimic and this is what I got. Any mimic tang experts out there that can verify if this is a Vroliki mimic, or once they get past a certain age and morph into the tang look it does not matter where they start out. ?

Maxx, I'm only seeing you in the large tank forum. Getting a big tank bug?

LOL...

I'd love a Keven Carpenter sized tank, but the reality of situation, (economics) prevent that.

Actually, I'm in the middle of setting up a 120 gallon...so bigger than my current, but not nearly as large as Sanjay's tank...

Basically what I'm doing is watching all these gorgeous large tanks and plotting/planning and ...uhm...uh..."borrowing" ideas and methods of doing things. I'll start a thread in the SEASL/SLASH forums when I get closer to having something to show for my efforts.

Sorry for the hijack....

No. A tristis is the eibli angel mimic and doesnt have the yellow that yours does as an adult. IMO, you've got the pretty one.

A.tristis (adult coloration)

A.pyroferus (adult coloration)

all the same, a beautiful fish Sanjay.

Any of you tang experts know why my orange shoulder's color change has stalled half way through? When I got it, it was yellow. Months and months later it is still mostly yellow with the orange shoulder and a slighlty darkened posterior. At night it turns almost black, but it has been so long and I don't understand why it is taking so long.

Sounds like your tang is has a drug problem. You should see if its hanging out with other 'bad' fish. Its hard to tell at first, but if its showing signs of depression... outbursts of anger, fin nipping, and at other times listlessness and just drifting with the current as if to be just staring up at the lights... your tang could be at risk. You may not be able to see it, but there usually is a rock or cave where they all meet... hidden from the other fish. An intervention may be the only solution... catch the tang, put it in a QT and give it antidepressants. Let it know that its okay if its not as pretty as some of the other fish, and you will still feed it.

Maybe that's why it's spitting sand all over the corals?

That is the one main reason I do not like to keep orange shoulder tangs. They have this bad habit of picking up sand and spitting it. Some of the gobies do it too and it get annoying.

I had no idea about that when I got it of course, and my female maroon clown is a freak about digging s, macro, coral etc. away from her charges and expelling it at me with intense prejudice. Between the two of them I have to always keep an eye on my encrusting montis to make sure they aren't getting loaded up. I sort of have a FOWL end of my tank where all this action happens. (the maroon hates most corals and will toss them out of her "zone")

Sanjay, your tank is looking fantastic and your photos are excellent. Can you share your secrets on camera and taking photos?

Hey Frank,

I really don't have picture taking secrets, I am mostly a focus and click type of photographer. When shooting coral pics, if I want high depth of focus, it usually translates to a slow shutter speed and I let the camera chose the speed after I set the aperture. usually the pics have to be taken with the camera on the tripod.

For fish pics I have to go with a higher speed given that they move quickly. Then I set the camera in shutter priority, and let it choose the aperture it computes.

I don't do anything fancier than that. What does help is a good DSLR and lenses. I have the Nikon D70 with the kit lens and a 105 macro lens for closeups.

digital SLR... theres the reason. Reef pics always come out better with D-SLRs it seems.

Sanjay has a couple advantagtes as well. With the 10,000K lights he gets a good white balance on the camera, for full rich colors. With my 20,000K lit tanks, they might look sweet, but I cant take a shot w/o the tank looking like tidybowl.

yeah, and on 20K tanks, it's difficult to adjust the white balance!

Sanjay and others thank you for the information. I can not get a decent photo with my old camera so I guess I will investigate the DSLRs.
Sanjay, by the way I went with three Lumenarc IIIs per your suggestion. I am so glad I took your advice as they are perfect for my set up. I bought 400 W 10000K Reeflux bulbs to start, based on a tank I saw at Reef Exotics. Hope they work out.
Thanks
Frank

Hey, don't forget to check in on Property Room once in a while for lighting needs. I got my Diamond reflectors from there very cheap.

I bought them from reefexotics. If you go to his site he has a picture of my Lumenarcs set up as example. Tony is great guy and has 400 gal reef tank with Lumenarcs and reeflux bulbs.
