That's cool. I've been following yours, and new it had to be soon. If all is well with the water testing, I'll begin making RO/DI water.

HI mflamb, How are you going to be doing the water test? Do you completely fill the system or just part?

I'll start by filling the skimmer section, and turning on the skimmer pumps and testing all the plumbing associated with that. Then I will start filling the rest of the sump and check the return pump supply plumbing. Then I'll turn on the return pump and check all the return plumbing. Next, I'll fill each of the overflow boxes and check the bulkheads and plumbing in each overflow. Then I'll fill the tank enough to cover the two closed loop supply plumbing and check all that. Then I'll turn on each of the closed loop pumps and check all that plumbing. And finally, fill the entire system and turn it all on, and open a Dos Equis and celebrate.

Oh man that is going to be cool and very tense! You took your time with the plumbing so I don't think you'll have any problems. That will be about would you say - 4 / 5 hours without mishaps. Thanks for the walk through on the test - this is the start of my two/three year prep .

Hey - when you come over I'll show you the drawing packages I have and just to let you know I'm laying out your system. I like your design and I know you did a lot of research. Gives me a good start on my research.

robthorn, I've learned that patience is a prerequisite to perfection. My goal on this build is to have fish swimming within a year of starting. Planning began in May 06. I went to Africa in June/July 06 and started building the stand frame in the last week of July 06. If the water test goes well, I will fill the 50 QT and add a school of Chromis. That will give me time to work on sand, rock and lights for a month. Then I should have fish swimming in the 390 within a year!!!

The skimmer was as far as I got. It should take about 30 minutes to repair and I'll try again.

Leaking a drop every few minutes. It should take less than an hour to disassemble, retape and reassemble.

I cured the skimmer pump inlet to bulkhead leak and continued testing. I filled the sump, tested the return pump and plumbing, and filled the overflow boxes. All well so far.

Now you're moving forward. Once everything is filled and looking good how long will you have it run for testing?

Looking forward to the reactor build party this weekend - just in time.

Looks good!

Watch those Pan World 150's. I have one of them & the impeller is designed with channels in it. I have to open mine up every 3-4 months & clean out the channels.
