thanks delboy. ! if your inspired by this, that makes the enduring process worth the effort. the more clownlovers the better

embryonyx 2/21/07 : some appear to have good black dev. also note, the first headband, covers edge of eye, similar to male rodonyx. also some appear to have very wide headbands. some headbands from the top almost go past the eyes. similar to snowflakes, which is odd. not sure where that feature is coming from. also first pic is true visual color. no flash. they are blood red, all of them.

So amazing...add me to your list of inspired folk, but chances are I'm only going to end up trying to raise one batch at a time...real life is enough work without trying to raise 1,000 lil fishes.

Very cool embryoguy! I have an active spawning pair of Rod's Onyx, but it sure seems like an awful lot of work to try and raise them ... kudo's to you!

thanks sara. youve seen rods setup and clowns in person. so im sure you can appreciate the quality of his clowns. ive always liked his clowns but after going thru the process myself, i have more of an appreciation for there quality.

i owe alot to rod and several others for there help for me to even reach this point.

Yes, Rod and his clowns are awesome! I even plan on getting a second pair for my new 225 gallon that I'm setting up.

The pics you are showing isa about the size of the one I took home from Rod at IMAC. Barely showing a mid-stripe The growth will slow considerably int he next few weeks.

Keep us posted, and great job, great looking fish.

These photo's are 9 months old, but you get the idea. The male never developed his back stripe. There's a new camera coming via FedEx this week, so better photo's will be coming!

The female has a complete stripe on one side and the partial on the other side and that's what you see in the photo. The male just does not have a 3rd stripe at all.

I purchased them from Rod in October 05 and they were a year old then. They started to spawn at Thanksgiving time in 06 so that's the usual 2 year mark to start that activity per Rod.

brian, great observation and insight. thats what ive noticed also. growth has definetly slowed up. hopefully color/pattern dev. incr.

sara, they look great!. what ive noticed in my babies so far @ 2 months is evidence of the third bar. its a very slight white shading, which kinda surprised me. its kinda like, a break in the orange. what does this mean? from my observations with juv. clowns, its a good sign the white will dev. but, only time will tell i guess. so far ive noticed some odd headpatterns, so im crossing my fingers for the 2nd/3rd bars to be odd also. if i just get one picasso/jigsaw like clown, this enduring breeding process will be worth the ride.

as of 2/22/07, ive combined all 700 in a grow out tank. i have pics in my little red house. you can see a diff in color from the 2-3 week old babies to the 2-3 month old ones. food makes a diff> but i still feel that genetics is the main underlying factor.

for someone asking about foods.

i use to feed the typical foods most hobbyist use. frozen mysis, cyclo, formula 1/2.

now i use:

primarily freeze dried plankton and formula 1/2. i also occassionaly mix in pure spirulina powder from hawaii.

i love using plankton. if a whale can eat it why cant my clowns after introducing it to my stock, within 2 months this pair started to spawn. than about 1-2 months later, my second pair of onyx spawned also. you can see this pair(condaonyx) at my little red .
house or in toofishy.com(something fishy). is this coincidence? maybe. i CAUTION feeding with plankton though bec, there guts can fill up very fast, so be careful not to overfeed. it might be best to pre soak the plankton first before introduction, but im lazy so i rarely do.

my theory is that whales eat plankton to put on weight/high protein content, why cant i use this for my clowns, since my intention is the same.

any thanks sara for posting pics. i will never get tired looking at rodonyx.

Your little ones are looking AMAZING...I love that red color...If they didn't develop black, but stayed that deep red, you would have a serious influx of orders on your hands.

You may anyways, but I'd be in for two red ones..lol

absolutly amazing every time i check this thread. ill look into the plankton your feeding your fish. i feed mine mysis, bloodworms, formula 1, cyclopeez, reef plankton, flakes and what ever pods they catch. the bloodworms are only a treat and the flakes are fed when im in a hurry.
hows that webcam coming along?
