Skimmers are extremely complicated and are more of an art than a science. Klaus is truly a pioneer in the field and has some incredible craftmanship. David Fliger ( screen name is Fliger) has used Deltec and BK extensively and has used both on the same tank and such. He is a wealth of knowledge. H&S skimmers maybe a better option than Deltec, the quality is superior to Deltec. Check out the H&S skimmer on this tank. When price is not of consequence you can really have some remarkable equipment.
Check out the link, the skimmer that Pieter van Suijlekom uses is H&S. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...totm/index.php

A little off topic, but I would also considered a phone call to spazz.
Here is one of his skimmers that I think is "state of the art" http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...5&pagenumber=5 Vidar |

TurboSnail,
I did think about going with the H&S A-300..... At first the choice was between the H&S and AP 1004. And for a short while I decided to go with the H&S A-300.. But as you all know its a very hard decision to make. The reason for why I think the AP 1004 is better is that it uses four pumps instead of three and it can be fitted with the self cleaning head. Vidar, believe me I would have, but the problem is that I dont live in US =) I am for some reason leaning more and more towards the AP 1004 again. For you guys that are "skimmer experts", is it possible to modifie the AP 1004, and use it with four red dragon pumps that have the same output but a much higher air-intake? Best Regards |

Turbosnail, thanks for the link BTW. That has been one of my favorite aquariums for quite a while, and that´s the aquascaping I will try to go with on my tank, well, as much as possible anyway =)

Why not give him a call/e-mail anyway, he might have an opinion on your choice of skimmer. I would not be surprized if he could make one for you and send it out of the US. No idea on the price range on his skimmers, but I have the impression that they are much less expensive than BK and Deltec.

Daniel_ber,
Are you in US or ??? If you want the best in US, Vidar's sugustion is a good one to look into. I thought BK's US restart issues were taking care of, you should double check on that if your in the US. Personaly i give the bubble diffuser/plate (like in BK) more cridit in skimmer performance than a lot of other things. Like turbo said with the art aspect, you cant just look at the numbers.

I have had both deltec and now a BK 250 and it is by far my favorite. a very close friend has a h&s and it doesnt perform like my BK and he says it all the time. The Deltecs are built OK at best. H&S built alot better material is alot better. The question about how a skimmer with one pump works bettter then the other very simple the Red Dragon pump is just that much better then the rest out there.

I would like to thank all of you for your help.
Vidar: Although I would love to buy one of the "volcanoes" I dont think that it would be such a great idea for me to buy a skimmer from the US (or any other country thats located so far away). Roland: No, for the moment I dont live in the states (I have some plans about moving there in a couple of years though). I live in Europe. Tanya: Thank you for your input. I have seen a couple of the Deltec AP 1004 IRL, and they where skimming very well. But I havn´t seen a BK IRL yet. So it is impossible for me to compare dose two with each other. Which Deltec skimmer where you using? |

i think the reason bubble king is so awesome as well is the electric cost. from what i understand electricity is very expensive over seas. thats why tunzes are nice as well lots of flow with minimal electricity. i would go bubble king if it were me.

I agree with Tanya's ranking as far as functionality. I eventually bought two Bubblekings and love them.

Tanyas rankings are what I would have ranked those skimmers as. BubbleKing is really a good product and if I had the means I would have bought one instead of my H&S.

REEFER714- Awesome photo, BK skimmers are just amazing. If you have any pictures of the skimmate production throw them up, I love to see what a good skimmer can produce.

Here is my custom protein skimmer with 2x1260 eheim by H&S. Honestly, i don't see the different between H&S, Deltec or BK protein skimmer. The only different is electrical usage and THE COST

That custom skimmer looks pretty cool, the foam looks nice and thick. I run an H&S 200-1260 so I would love to see how the skimmate of your big BK compares.

Am I seeing that right? H&S did a custom bubbleplate skimmer for you? Wow... I wouldnt have seen that coming... looks like H&S will built anything.
I have a side question since all the brains are assembled... Im looking to use a spare Eheim 1262 I have laying around as a needlewheel/meshwheel skimmer. Does anyone know what might be the best place to get a mesh/needlewheel for this skimmer? I know that the outputs on 1260-1262s get ported out slightly as well... that might come next if I can find a good impeller... but where?

Thats not an H&S. Its a DIY with H&S Eheim pumps.
See if you can get a Euro-Reef 1262 NW impeller.

you have 2100 liter system and i think i know where you live and the electric there very expensive.... if you not rush i suggest to you to wait it's can take some time but when the ATI Bubble Master (BM300) will be out it's will perform low electricity and as i am sure better then all those skimmer here also the price will be better . Thats true magvi... or I was thinking... why not get two BM250s and call it a day. Two of those are still something like 80 watts only and would cost less than the other options.

2 skimmer will perform better then any other big one and especially 2 BM250 . i know in europe ppl run 1 BM250 in this size of tank and even bigger , 2100liter (555 us gallon) and i think the BM250 can handle this size to . the BM300 will kick any other big skimmer and will be perfect for the big tank , i hope we will see it soon....... |
