ecofilter system

I just read about eco system today from Coral Magazine. Is there anyone here ever use this system before? Basicly the tank without skimmer, filter or UV. Just with the big sump and fill with Mircle Mud, algae and LR, I think.
Can someone tell me more about this kind of system??

One more thing from what I read, the book said having the skimmer is the big reason that we have to dose calcium a lot more than we need to.

but from what I read in Coral magazine, they didn't said anything about having to replace the mud. The system that show in the magazine have been running for more than 4 years with out skimmer or filter, and they do water change about 30g for every 6-8 weeks. Bytheway the system is about 320g tank with 100g sump, if i'm not mistake.
thank you

I used it before and there is nothing special about it. I think you have to replace it at certain point.
