Skimmer ON or OFF during cycling new tank

Just wanted to know what everyone is doing during the cycling process. Skimmer on or off during when cycling a new tank?

40 gal tank w/ 20 gal sump = ~ 55 gals water (salt water...ha)

Thanks.

I agree. On, and I'd do some water changes if the ammonia got high, and I had the energy.

I asked the same question when i started. Also got the same replies. Skimmer on, and water changes. It all worked better. Compared to my first attempt at SW,where i failed miserably.(poor maintence) Now im on a roll.

I guess to allow your bio-system to work naturally with the skimmer.

Altogether, to have a stable water condition. Otherwise, your water will have nitrate spikes...

The skimmer will remove organic compounds from the water, including toxins, and reduce stress on animals in the live rock. Cleaner water is always good.
