Have you been able to tell any difference when running it? I set it up on my 90 and couldn't tell a single difference at all.

Yeah, the reading bounces around a bit, but it hovers at 12.

I have read most of the posts but still confused... as there are too many posts

Could someone please summarize what are the best steps to set up a 150 external in order to give the best performance.

I have been using it together with my old skimmer - Aqua medic multi-SL for 2 months, i however found that it gives better skimate than the H&S!!!!!!!!!??????

Andylam - checkout the below thread. also, you might want to delete your triple posts.
http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...readid=1014120

edit - Just edit your posts and type the word "delete" when you get a chance. I know it's frustrating when RC's servers are busy and takes a really long time to update.

Andylam,
How are you feeding your 150? When I first got mine, I was feeding it with a MJ. Once I got off my lazy butt and plumbed it directly to one of my drain lines, it rocks.

I slightly modified my plumbing from the drawing that UCanDoIt, who's a wonderful and tremendous resource BTW. Instead of a "T" I used a "Y" with a gate valve right after on the line running to the 150. Dropped the lines down to meet the size of the connector to the skimmer.

Then just follow the instructions from the link. Adjust the wedge pipe so the water is at the bottom edge of the bayonet connection between the collection cup and skimmer body. I fiddled with the air valve a bit and haven't had to make any adjustments to anything for a few months now.

My wife and I are heading to Nassau in a few weeks so I was showing my step-daughter how to empty the skimmer cup the other day. When she took the lid off the skimmer cup, she was about ready to spew it stunk so bad.

David

Has anybody hooked up a airpump to the air intake on there skimmer? forcing more air into the skimmer? I read this increased performance on another thread.

I dont see why you would need more air, unless the skimmer is not matched properly. I wont speak for others, but I have my Eheims choked back a little.

What H&S skimmer do you have??

Oh, one of the advantages of finally getting an airmeter, is proving to myself an old tale I've seen here before. Closing off the air hose with the clamp ever so slightly bumped me from 7lph to 9lph.

Thanks for the response. I have a 150-F2001 in-sump. I think this is a little under powered for my 150gal tank? I did a few things to increase performance.. I took out the 90 degree from the pump to the skimmer so the aquabee plugs directly into the skimmer. I slowed down the return pump so water travels more slowly through the sump. I read on a ASM or Euroreef post on this mod about adding a airpump to the air intake? I have not tried it myself.

I recently placed an order for the larger 200-1260. Anybody want to buy a used 150?

Thanks
A

Anthony, I forwarded you some info on how to pick the right skimmer for your setup. I may know someone who will take your 150 if it's the right price. Can you tell me the footprint from the exhaust pipe to the end of the pump as my friend has a very limited space in his sump.

U Can Do It,
Thanks again for the info last night, but can you explain in more detail what the difference in the Recirculating and Non-Recirculating. I'm leaning towards the 150-F2001 Protein Skimmer Up To 225gal for in sump.

I am definitely biased towards recirculating skimmer as it gives:
1. user has total control of how fast they want to pass the raw tank water through the skimmer
2. skimmer can be fed from overflows or pump fed
3. can be installed in sump or externally
4. control of type of skimmate, drier or wetter
5. skimmer not sensitive to any changes in the sump, whether water level or chemical
6. when fed from overflow at a good rate, there's at least 15%-20% better performance, this is subjective

I'm sure others can chime in of their experiences as well.
