WOW Goblin, nice patch of xenia. Great color and shape.
What are you using for lighting? Would you say the xenia is under strong or low current ?

Interesting about the pumps but if it's working and it appears it is, go with the flow (pun intended).
![]() Just looked at the pics again and WOW, I love the brilliant color of that patch. Nice work man. ![]()

check this out. I actually pay for most of my supplies by exchanging xenia with my LFS. Every week I harvest about 12 stalks and bring it in. If I didnt, it would take over all of my glass!!
![]() ![]() ![]() If you look close, you can see that it is growing on the magnet at the far end of the tank. This lets me grow it where I want it. ![]()

This tank is filled with umbellata. I have to pull at least 12 stalks every 2 weeks. I've tried giving some away but nobody wants to drive to stamford ct to pick some up.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Theres also a huge green sinularia that i will be thinning out. Again if anyone wants to pick it up for free pm me.

well guys, a year later and I regret to say that my whole Xenia infestation ended up in a mishap. I re-aquascaped my tank so I took all the corals out (the Xenia covered 2 HUGE live rocks), put them in the sump and forgot about them. When I did a water change 2 weeks later, they were GONE
![]() I have converted to an SPS dominated tank since then.. ![]()

This may be a dumb question, but. When you say Nutrient rich water. What are the Nutrients?

When you say Nutrient rich water. What are the Nutrients?
I read a SPS tank needs a less nutrient tank compared to soft corals. I was just wondering what are the nutrients?
Does it mean Phytoplankton and things like that? |

I have been fighting to get rid of xenia in my tank. It will not quit growing. I keep mine cornered off by a frogspawn. I have given away god knows how many frags of it and it will not stop growing. I have ripped pieces off the rock only to have it regrow. I know now why they call it the weed of the ocean. I recently converted to sps so I cant have those stray pieces laying around. They would even grow over my zoas. The only things that will stop it are anemones and euphylia.

I couldn't wait to get a nice fat stalk of xenia growing and all I can say now is be careful what you wish for. I find little stalks growing out of and in between everything. I had a big old snail that had a good sized stalk growing on his back.

LOL my royal urchin carries pieces around with him. The xenia are not fond of it so I pull them off and throw them in the refugium.
