Group Buy: Refractometers

Hello my northern brethren . "Sherman" here from CVR. I just got offered a great deal on refractometers, and wanted to share with you guys. In less than 24 hours, we've already had 16 chime in for a refractometer, and that will grow. You guys could certainly help us reach a better price break, and get in on a deal at the same time.

For your club, I don't mind monitoring this thread for quantities. When all units are received, I can just ship them together to any one of you guys, and let you distribute them at a meeting, or however you'd like. I can't imagine shipping to be more than just a few dollars total, which would calculate into mere pennies over the cost when I start taking Paypal payments.

Here's the info, copy/paste from my thread @ CVR :

I just got offered a smokin' deal on a refractometer group buy!

These refractometers normally run $40 each. The vendor sells them in black, and in blue. The black has been discontinued, but he still has some stock left, so he's letting it go cheap! This is the same refractometer we all purchased almost three years ago, but in black.

10 Units: $30
20 Units: $25
40 Units: $20

In addition, the sponsor has offered calibration fluid for an additional $2.75 with the refractometer.

If you don't have a refractometer, I'll be as bold as to say "YOU NEED ONE." Swing arm hydrometers are notoriously inaccurate. You will not regret this purchase, I promise!

I'll front the costs of this purchase. If we break the 40 units mark (I'm going to offer this to a couple other clubs, as well), payment would be gladly accepted. However, if we don't, I don't want to accept payment until we know which price bracket we hit.

It would be nice to close this before the Social, but timing's too tight. I'd like to give everyone two weeks before I close this. I will make the order on Monday morning, December 18, and take orders up to Sunday night, the 17th.

Please chime in, and tell me how many you'd like.

Got these noted, thanks. And avalanche wolf... it's black only. Sorry.

There was a question as to which exact unit it was. Here is the exact unit:

jlflnjlf, let's put you on standby. In the end, the deal is for as many fluids as refractometers. I know there are some who aren't buying the fluid, so there will be an option for some to pick up fluid only, but I don't want to promise this yet, then have several people on it.

How about this: you're first on the list, and on standby.

Just a quick update, we've reached the 40 unit price break. These refractometers will be $20.

I'll start accepting Paypal in a bit. I'm trying to get an idea of how many from your area are joining in, so I can make a price adjustment to cover my shipping up to you guys. I could just make it easy and add $1 each, if that doesn't bother you all too much. I'm not looking to make money on this deal, but I also don't want to wait until the last minute to calculate shipping divided exactly between everyone. We're start counting pennies worth of a difference at that point.

Is everyone cool with me eliminating math guess work and just adding in $1 each for the shipping?

Lar1, are you a MARS member? From my side, it doesn't matter to me. MARS may have member only benefits, so that's up to MARS. I'm offering this to MARS, and letting MARS handle it how they prefer.

Hm, no, I'm not a MARS member. Does anyone (a member, presumably) know who I should talk to about this?
