Need help on picking a pump.

Hey guys..I am currently setting up my 110 reef and need to get a pump. Now I have heard I would want 20-30x turnover rate for my tank. I will be running a CL with a SCWD and 1 return out of the internal overflow. What would be a good pump to use, and could you point me in the right direction? I dont mind used equipment either

Does it need to be submersible or external, what will the head pressure be ie: how far below the tank will the pump be placed, what size plumbing do you want to use and the configuration, does it need to be quiet??

danho...sorry I thought my question seemed a bit vague. At this point it can be either internal or external. I would prefer a quiet pump. It will be placed roughly 2 feet below the tank. As for plumbing, I already have it plumbed with 1.5 pvc with a 3/4" return. I will also be running a closed loop as well. Let me know if you need anymore info. I really appreciate the help!

That is what I had planned. Better idea to run seperate pumps? Or is it ok to run the CL and return off the same pump as long as it can move enough water to supply both?

Use separate pumps. I dont think you can use one pump to do both.

10-4. What kind of output would I need for the CL as opposed to the main return?

I'm not really a closed loop guy, but some sort of high flow external. For a return, an Eheim 1260 would be really nice. I run them submerged, but they can also be external.

Scrap the SCWD. They are flow killers and unreliable.

It's not a normal SCWD, it's modified for more flow. I just looked up the Eheim 1260 and notice it only does 635 gph. Wouldnt I need a much higher turnover rate than just 6x for a reef tank?

The 1260 has a lot more flow than the specs show. Some say its a 50hz/60hz thing. One thing for sure is it doesn't lose much flow due to headloss like a Mag. It has a TON more flow than a Mag7. Closer to a Mag9.5.

Your return should be ~ 3 - 5x display size which is 330 - 550 GPH for a 110. The 1260 will be right in the middle. They are VERY quiet, high quality pumps.

Oceanrunner pumps are amazing. They are cool, and some of the most efficient pumps around. I love mine, and I am sure others will chime in about theirs as well. They are made by AquaMedic, and they have amazing customer service.
