a good week.

It's been a good week.
I sold some of my own ocellaris juveniles, and GOT PAID.

I took a day off work to make some progress on the new sump install.

My breeding pair laid a jumbo nest of bright orange eggs today, again on the inside floor corner of the tank, but the nest is bigger this time, and extends beyond the trim. I can see a few eggs.

It's been a good week.

Selling the little fellas

Congrats Kathy,
Good to hear that you have managed to get a record in the "money In" column.

I just got some to market here in Adelaide South Oz and I know the feeling ... torn between losing your kids and pretty damn happy that you sold some!

I am also interested in how long from starting to selling?
Took me about 6 months? March 25th was the first hatch.

Now I have quite a few in my grow out tank! I would post a pic but who can work that out!!

It has been about a year since I started getting larvae to survive metamorphosis. I was practicing with my friend's fish's eggs. Last March my own broodstock started laying nests. The fish I just sold are about 5 months old. I have more to sell, now. I have sold some previous to this, but these are the first from my own broodstock.

Kathy,
That's excellent. My record for getting fish into stores is pretty dismal. Almost four years.

Well, my fish took a break from spawning when I moved them to the basement after last July's power outage and subsequent heat wave. Then they started again and I let a few nests go because of lack of space and an abundance of juveniles from last spring's spawns. I've been selling a few lately, cleared a tank, and collected the spawn that hatched last night. I took a picture of the larvae before I put the rots and greenwater in, and printed the photo. Just got done counting the dots, 550 not counting the ones my camera did not record. I guess the snagger is still working. And importantly, the broodstock are still doing a good job.

We are back in the saddle again!

Congrats Kathy. That snagger idea was a great idea I have not caught any for some time but it sure works good. I have quite a few left some are almost a year old now. Can I ask what you get for the youngins maybe I think mine are just worth to much. I also seem to have a problem with about half of the ones left have a defomaty of the mouth doesn't seem to bother them but I don't know if they would be sellable or not. Maybe I could just give them to a store. Anyways I am glad to see that you are still into it and getting some of your money back.
