help please

this really isnt the worlds best pic but its the best i could get and ive been snapping pics for almost 2 hrs

well anyways indo or aussie tuskfish any comments or questions i thank you for in advance

If that's not a case of a fish who's taken a nip at superglue (which does happen) that's some sort of fungus, by the look of it. Google 'marine fish disease' and see if you can find one of the sites that recommend treatments. I tested the link on the one I would have sent you to, and it's down. I'll see if I can find one I know.

I've done a moderate search, now, and the best indication I come up is a bacterial infection which looks like fungus: the name would be columnaris, and it is treatable by a number of medications, all of which need to be administered in quarantine for the sake of your tank. Any medication that will treat body velvet will also treat this. There are a handful of medications that say they treat both ich and this, and Cupramine [a copper preparation] was also mentioned.

Re-post this in the fish disease forum and see if you can get some expert help on this before you do medicate.

Well thanks for the help but unfortunately that fish is perfectly healthy that thing you see in its mouth is a piece of shrimp that it is eating

but......

if you'd really like to help i was trying to find out if that was an indo pacific or an australian caught harlequin tuskfish i know that picture isnt very good but its the best i could get that fish only comes out once a day so i had to bribe him to come out

Thats one big hunk.(fish) The best way to tell the difference is the coloring. The australian is more $ and the teeth are brighter blue. Colors are much brighter, vivid,and clear. Take your pic to your LFS and try to compare the two. Sorry, I cant help 100%. But, hopefully it is enough. Have a great day. -D-

The back half of the fish has completely fallen off!!.......oh wait its behind a piece of liverock.

Actually, I also thought that was a mouth fungus when I looked at the pic. I was going to suggest posting in the disease forum


I'm no expert, but the aussies usually have more blue on them then that pic shows...especially next to the orange stripes (and on the teeth as someone else pointed out).

thanks for the help guys heres a better pic i was hoping if somebody could be a bit definitive with an answer i realize my picture taking skills are weak at best however so if nothing else thanks for looking
