Eagle Scout Ceremony - a few pics.

The speech, (abridged version).

Over the years I've watched as my brother's dedication and loyalty to the scouts.
But I've also had the priveledge of watching his committment
to family.
There were times when I had concern that my brother
had been misguided.

Like the time he dressed up as Michael Jackson for Halloween,
or the time he didn't want to help clean up after dinner
because he "had cramps".

Living with two sisters I'm sure wasn't easy. However,
he's really grown as a scout and a young man.
There's been numerous times he has come back from a
camping trip, or jamboree so drained, I wondered why he
stuck with it. It's because of the man he's become, and the
effect scouting has had on his character.
He's proved himself, and he makes me proud to be his older sister.

There's more pics, and stuff but they're boring.
I'm so going on a diet after we're done with the cake.
I swear I've gained 5 lbs in the past 4 days.

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing.

Did he receive any cards from the famous people we suggested?

What is an eagle scout? We have scouts in Canada, but that's for little boys under the age of 12...

None of the funny ones. lol

He did get them from the president, Bob Dole, Hillary Clinton, Thunderbirds, a couple from the Supreme Court, he got a certificate of accomplishment from Rudy Giuliani, some actors that I can't remember, he got another one this week that he'll keep but didn't make his display binder.

Alex was really shocked to see some of the people writing a very personal note to him, and not just the pre-printed postcard.

CONGRATS for him.

Wish I would have stuck it out and got mine. It will be a positive thing for him longer than he can imagine right now. It can open so many doors out in the real world. Good luck to him.

Congrats to your Brother!!! I know only 2% of all boy scouts make it to Eagle!!! It is a Hugh accomplishment! My son just earned his Arrow of Light with the Weblos in April and is just starting his Boy scouting adventures. Hopefully he will earn his Eagle as well.

You bet I told it. My mother and I were laughing so hard when he did it. He was like, "I need a heating pad" and mocking us.

Poukie, eagle is the highest rank a boy scout can achieve. He had to do a large project for the community and get it approved by the board. You have to get it before the age of 18.

Both of my sons were in boys scouts but quit around the third grade.

My daughter started girl scouts in Kindergarten and is now going into 7th grade. She's still in it and loves it. Next year is her first year as a Cadette.

As a former Scout leader, let me say "Way to Go!!!" to your brother.

It is a huge accomplishment on his part. I believe the percentages of boys becoming Eagle Scout is within the 1% - 2% range these days. Sad commentary on society. I remember those days of having scouts who were involved in other activities like sports. Grades started dropping and first thing most parents would drop was scouting. Nevr could figure that one out since scouting teaches you so many things and becoming an Eagle looks real good on college applications.

When I joined up as a leader, we had a young man that I looked at and thought, "There is a kid who will have a hard time over the next few years." He was overweight, nerdy, wore glasses(okay, scratch that as I do also)....your typical couch potato kid. Over the years I saw him grow into a young man who made Eagle and went on to the Naval Academy.

Congrats to your brother. That is a HUGE accomplishment and one that will bode well for him in the future.

Did you know that Steven Spielburg was an Eagle Scout and his final project was film-related and that's how he got his start as a film maker? True story - he even wrote a note to one of the Eagle Scouts in our troop telling him that.

Again, congrats to your brother, and to you for being such a great, supportive sister. Your parents should be proud of you both!!!

Thanks for sharing that story and the pics. Your brother will always hold his scouting days close. My oldest is an Eagle and he still considers this as one of his greatest accomplishments. Congrats to your brother from another scout leader.

lol, he's also in tennis, soccer, totally whoops my butt in ping pong & darts, and mows lawns... yeah, he's a good guy.

Thanks you guys. He thanked me at the ceremony for "the support, and umm... packing my gear up, and saying farewell."

I'll show him the thread. He'll be shocked!

I see he's Order of the Arrow too, huh? He's probably in the same OA lodge I was back in the day. Quite the decorated young man! Tell him I said congrats, from one Eagle scout to another.

Board games can be contact sports if you play them right!
