I think you shouldn't expect it. Hit or miss.

I also think they are hit and miss. I know someone that tried one with plenty of algea and the blenny would not take to other food and was a goner.

i dont know about hair algae- but pretty much any other algae mine likes.

He has been watching the yellow tang eat from the seaweed clip and has learned to eat nori. I fixxed him of that- I started feeding the tang every 3 days and he started kissing the glass again.

IT may be too long for him. Try hauling the bulk of it off with a toothbrush (winding and pulling) and let him try the same rock once the algae is shorter.

i think mine may have started eating the hair algae- I have not fed the tang his nori in a few days- and the lawnmower had a nice full belly- I checked around the usual spots for hair algae and there wasnt much. I also noticed him picking up gravel and shaking the algae off of it. Pretty wierd- but at least he is full.

Mine never has ... had him since September, he now eats from the clip and enjoys frozen food too. He does clean the rocks and glass, though. Ring or money cowries do a good job with hair algae (though you might not see them very often.)
