I spent some time looking at the spec sheets for on these LED's. It looks like the most important thing to pay attention to is the temperature of the device. Brightness reduces dramatically when they heat up from use.

They are already attached to a heat sink. It appears that they need to be thermally attached to a larger piece of heat conductive material for proper long term operation.

best hong kong is my first choice for leds, they sell on ebay and at their site. ( http://www.besthongkong.com )

led light output is not exactly measured the way traditional lights are. The brightness of an led is based on the beam angle the light is emited at, a narrow beam = a brighter light. 1000 mcd = 1 candela. candela is light emited, lumen is light recieved... candela to lumen conversion is ugly.

most leds wont consume anything near a watt unless specially designed to that idea, best h k has 1, 3, and 5 watt leds... which is news to me, time for more leds.

sorry if this was all ot or tmi...

also, iv never had a heat problem with led's. the super brights can get a bit warm but even stringing a couple dozen together its not been an issue.

350ma is an exceptional amount of current for an led.

yes that will run right around 1 watt.

id be interested to get an led surface temp off of it when running 350@3.5 ...

If you want wide angle, and don't need a case of 500, thelebos.com has good quality LED's. They also have a variety of other LED hardware.

On the super bright LED's website, there is a 1 watt XLite that is UV. Would this help with flourescing corals? Or is that past the effective wavelength for giving corals the "pop"

Just wondering.

390-410 nm, should give you some results. I've used the 400nm 3mm at 4000 mcd. They worked pretty good.

I was building a nano tank with led lighting. I stopped when I heard a lot higher wattage and mcd's were coming out.

I've built a few of these.

These are run on a 12VDC 500mW transformer. They are mounted to a metal clad PCB to reduce heat. 1 watters.

VaderWS6, send me a PM I still have a few LEDs. Your on your own for ckt design. Its easy though.
