Does anyone have any information about an Eclipse III set up as saltwater? We would like to set up our 37 gallon tank. Anyone that has any helpfull input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

I have had my Eclipse III for almost a year now (40 gal). I had a lot of problems with it initially but it's doing great right now. A few problems you may come across: 1) It's hard to find a protein skimmer that fits without doing modifications. I decided to do without and do weekly water changes instead. 2) Unless you modify the lighting (there are many threads regarding this issue), you can only fit 2 20 watt lights in the tank. I have no corals in my tank so that's not a problem for me. 3) This is considered a small tank and you will be limited on choices of fish and the water quality can deteriorate quickly.
After making all the mistakes initially, I have it set up pretty nice now. Tammy |

I have a write up on my 37 gallon tank with an Eclipse III on my website (link below). Basically, it's ok for fish only but not suitable for a reef tank.
Decide now whether you want just fish or fish and corals. If you think you MIGHT want corals at some point, don't get the Eclipse. If you want a protein skimmer, get the tank drilled, add a bulkhead and put the skimmer in a sump. |

I have an eclipseII on my 25gal. reef tank. I took out the pump that comes with it and put a notch in the back of the hood and put a seaclone on it. I found a modification for adding a light on the net so we did that and that gave us some more light. Recently I ran across some website where you buy lighting that has a diagram of how you can put power compacts into the eclipse and it sells the materials that you need. I wish I could think of which site it was because it had picture and was very informative. Also, I think I have seen it in the Petwherehouse catalog.
The Protein skimmer is probably the hardest thing to get on the eclipse. TnReefer |

I have their 12-gal version. IMHO toss the hood, keep the tank. I like their tanks because they are taller than the conventional tanks. ie. just 3" taller makes a 10-gal a 12-gal with a 10-gal foot print.
You may be able to cut holes in the hood to fit a CPR or Remora HOB. I noticed the bio wheel filter attachment looks like it can be cut out without damaging the hood. |
