I have had mine now for approx 8 months and have just forgotton it's there. My tank is absolutely covered in coraline. This is really a product that works and is an install and forget appliance.

I've had mine for about a year now and I'm happy with it. My coral look better since I started using it because now my Cal. and Alk. are stable and not yo-yo-ing up and down. It is a very efficient reactor and it is supposed to be one of the best ones to use on a big tank.

What other brands of Ca reactor would be good for a 180g?

I'm afraid I can't help you with that. I've heard the Knop isn't to good on tanks over 75 gal. with a heavy load However, I have never used one and I have no proof that this is so. I believe several people on the board have DIY reactors but I'm not forsure what size tank they are running them on.
Reactors are expensive but it has been one of the best pieces of equipment I have purchased for my tank. Sorry I couldn't help more. TnReefer |

How are you all preventing the air locks associated with the Korallin? That is one thing I don't care for with this reactor. Then again, maybe it's because the way I have it set up.

I've had air locks also and it is frustrating. However, it is supposed to be a safety precaution. The air lock prevents it from overdosing your tank with Co2. If your drip rate and bubble rate are right then you shouldn't get an air lock.
Have you used the formula in the instructions for setting your bubble rating? Say if you want a KH of 35 in the effluent and you have a drip rate of 60 drops/min. you multiply 35 x 60=2100. Move the decimal 2 places forward and you get a CO2 bubble rating of 21 bubbles/min. It took me awhile to get it adjusted correctly. TnReefer |
