here is mine for my 90G. The refugium is in the right side and the skimmer go in the left side. The center is for the intake to the tank. The refugium haved 15L x 10H x 12W and the skimmer side haved 10L x 10H x 12W.

this is 36L x 16H x 12W

This is the pieces of acrilic that you need in 1/4.

1- 12 X 36
2- 11 1/2 x 16
2- 11 1/2 x 36

for the refugium and skimmer area

2- 11 1/2 x 10.

Here is in the test process.

Hey albert2k,
Did you make the sump yourself and how long and how much did it end up costing you. I like Hockeyben51 am looking to upgrade my sump but for a 90 gal. I currently just have a 20 gal tank under my tank. I have a refugium hang on but want to get a bigger area for that stuff. Any help or suggestions will help.

Thanks,
Henry

albert2K,
Do you have a pic of that sump set up and running?
Thanks for including the cut list.
It looks like a great DIY project.
Thanks

Here's my sump for my 75g.

It's a 30 long so the dims are approximately 36 x 12 x 16

This view is from the top, I had to pull the center brace to set it in and took the opportunity to beef up the stand considerably.
The far end is the fuge, the return section is in the center.

The fuge is as big as I could make it, it holds about 15 gallons, is fed directly from the drain and spills in to the bubble trap.

The skimmer section has inlet baffles on the back side so most of the drain water enters there passes across the baffles to loose bubbles and some detritus, I could use this area for filter pads or media like carbon, but I don't as yet. The incoming water then feeds the skimmer chamber. Initially this drained over to the bubble trap, but since I added the gate valve mod to my ER 5-3 skimmer, water flows back to the skimmer from the bubble trap. It's a recirculating skimmer section, all particulate matter in this section gets sucked into my skimmer with prejudice.

I get zero bubbles in my return section as there is no turbulence at all there. My Kalk reactor drops into the return section and I have a PH feeding a PhosBan reactor that drops into my fuge for added flow through that section.

Auto top off float is in the skimmer section the top off water drains into the return through the Kalk reactor

I bouth a 4feet by 4 feet piece of acrylic and cost me $55, $27 for a glue and $3 for a bottle that you need to use the glue #4. I cut the pieces by myself and putt everything together. But you can see better sump\refugium in the meelef site where I take my idea.

Here are a few pictures of my 30g sump for my 75. Because the way my tank stand was built, it wouldn't fit. I had to build a free standing stand for the sump.
It has a 1GX skimmer. I am using an external pump ( T2 ). Since the sump is not drilled I used the over-the-top method to get the water to the pump. I have had the pump off for up to 3 hours and did not lose the prime.

This is from a couple of days ago.

Here is what it looked like when I first set it up, about 6 months ago.

And here is a full shot show the stand.

One of these days I will build some doors for it, for now I use a towel at night to keep the fuge light from spilling into the dinning room.

Bax: Thank you. Yes, designed and made it with the husband. He had the ideas but I was the one who knew how to work with acrylic. It used to look so pretty when it was all shiny and new.

The middle inside box is supposed to be refugium but I haven't put anything else in it other than sand yet.

For mine I used a regular aquariums ( 20 and a 30 for my two). I didn't use glass for the baffles. Instead I used acrylic sheets that I picked up at Home Depot.

i was told that acrylic and glass don't mix but i'm not sure? What glue did you use and how did you cut it and how thick is it and any special type?

My sump is a glass tank with acrylic baffles, I have two sump that I've built like this. Use 1/4" acrylic (not 1/8) pay attention to bracing and it works. My 16 g tall sump on my 26 is two years old and still holding together just fine.

Try out you ideas, test it with water for a few days, if it holds up to that, it'll work. If not do it again, it's a sump it does not have to be as pretty as Chandaranga's

I used dabs of superglue to spot the section in place and siliconed all seams.

Acrylic is pretty easy to bond together. You use a solvent. You just put the 2 pieces in place and the solvent gets sucked in by capilary action and fuses them together. (I would have to get the name of the solvent if you need it)

A sump doesn't have to be pretty but my stand is open in the bottom and my sump is visible. I want to make the inside box a refugium with macros. Like a little display refuge.
