Guys, this is my understanding of the "privacy" issue.

We don't routinely read PMs, period. Can it be done? Yes, as Jason said above, anything stored on a computer can be accessed by someone, somewhere.

We don't go prying into PMs and looking for trouble - we really do value privacy. However, if someone reports an offensive PM, we do actually check to ensure it hasn't been "altered" by the reporter.

Just my understanding, from where I sit.

Kevin

Hey Kevin,

I believe Ericreef may be sending offensive PMs.

Does that help move this along?

Just kidding. It just seemed so obvious that since he made an issue about it, curious eyes may actually check. I mean, if he has the cure to Ich, we want to know it too.

The operative word is 'try'. My posts are like a car wreck, you know you shouldn't look, but you just can't help yourself.

4,500 posts, I'd sure like to think i've helped a few people out with a few of them. Some others, well.................

As you can tell by my signature, I firmly believe that PM is a Private message
Plainly put, NEVER send anything via a Computer that you would not want someone to read or pass on to someone else

I know for a fact at one company I worked that they monitored E-mail on a random basis, and more so when they wanted to get rid of someone.

Also, computer records can be subpeonayed (how do you spell that? - dang spill chick) in a legal issue

So there is no possible way they can be read by anyone other than the reciepent? (or anyone looking over there shoulder)
PM's are stored in a SQL data base part of the myPHPadmin that is required to run any PHP based forum/webpage this information can be seen/read by ant person with SQL access. How ever the user name as well as the users password is incrypted by a MD5 algarythem this is a one way encrytion that can only be cracked using a bruteforce program, that takes several days and is not worth anyoners effert.

That being said, they can read it but dont know who it's from unless you add your name to the message.

Hope this answers your question.

Technically, myPHPadmin is actually a mysql admin tool and not required for any board.....

I bet that anyone under the age of 30 is saying to themselves, "What on earth is a cone of silence?" I provide a pic to help them but I'm not sure it helped much.

BTW....I still can't figure out why this show isn't in re-runs. If the current re-runs were funny, I could see it. However, they aren't.
