I think you will find a lot of mixed emotions on this forum between which is better. I have now finally got my EV-120 dialed in correctly and it is working great, but there are some people who are not happy with their EV series skimmers. On the other hand, I have seen threads of people who are not happy with their ASM skimmers either.

The G3 does need more sump space than the EV-180 plus the EV-180 can be run outside of the sump in case you don't have space for the unit in the sump. Most people tend to run one pump higher in flow rate than what AquaC suggests to use. I know that I had to upgrade my pump from the Mag 5 to a Mag 7 on my EV-120 and I have seen several people who run the Mag 9.5 on their EV-180 instead of the suggested Mag 7.

IMO they are both great skimmers.. Just depends on which way you choose to go.

I've got both an EV-180 (be sure and get at least a mag 9.5) and a Euroreef cs-5. IMO, the euroreef outskimms the aqua but the aqua does work pretty well. With the room in the sump I'd get 2 euroreef and clean on alternate days. JMO.

you have a cs5-2 and a ev180 in a 29 gallon?
bet that is something to work around.
question is where each pump placed in regards to the overflow.

I have a acrilic box made big enough to put the pump for the Aqua-c in (a mag 9.5). The box is feed 100% overflow water so that is all the Aqua gets. I also prefilter the water thru a 100 micro filter sock befor it gets to the pump. The Cs5 just takes sump water for input. It produces as much skimmate as the Aqua but isn't quite as dark. I think the 2 work quite well to gether.
