bax, isnt that a bit much < meaning air injection and flow through the skimmer > for a skimmer that size.

zapata41

This will be a ton of air, but air is a good thing, isn't it?

In all my systems I look to max out air water exchange with falling water for aeration. My ponds and two sumps I have built previously include falling water for more aeration.

This monster will run on a 500 g total volume system I am planning. I'll be starting on the fish room right after Christmas but the display will have to wait until after we sheet rock the family room. This unit is a gravity fed, recirculating design from MRC with 1250 gph per beckett. I don't belive in over skimming I want lots of fat fish in my 240 display

Sorry to repeat the picture it's the only one I have uploaded.

bax, yeah the skimmer should kick some arse then, if both becketts are recirc, then you will get some nice contact time that way.

just remember too much air isnt a good thing, you will want to dial it down a little to get the tiniest bubbles possible.

Hi all
I'll play the show and tell game.

This is a DIY that I did with the remains (collection cup) of a Euro Reef.
10"dia 20"tall reaction chamber with a Sedra 9000 (new this weekend replaceing a Sedra 5000).
Man what a difference so far with the increase from the 5000 to the 9000.
Next I will add the 5000 back on this unit when I build the next skimmer using twin 9000's

jimdogg187,
how did you hook up that dwyer air flow meter up to your skimmer's venturi line. I have one that I need to hook up to my h & s but cant find the right fitting to screw into the back and then slip onto the venturi tube. can you post pics of the back of it so i can see the fittings?

Heres my DIY skimmer,
8" Dia x 24" reaction chamber, fed downdraft with a gen-x, and using an Ocean runner 3700 for recirculation. a venturi from a Sedra 9000, and a hartford loop for adjustment.

That is about the darkest nastiest skimmate I have ever seen. I am going to have to request more pics.

A buddy of mine said he will down a shot of skimmate from my reef for $50. If he does, I'll videotape it and post it up.
