Live mysis shrimp in my fuge'

Over the past 2 months, i noticed i have live mysis shrimp that live and breed in my refugium. I have alot more now than i did, and i am afraid i have too many in the fuge'.

Do you guys have any tips on harvesting the mysis shrimp out of my fuge' so that i can put them in my main tank? I have tried sucking them up with a turkey baster.....but they are too fast to catch them.

Thanks,
CJ

How about netting them out? If you could harvest even a portion of them at a time, it seems that you would control the proliferation. I wish I had this problem, and so do the fish in my main tank!

What do you mean by "too many?" Are they having some sort of detrimental effect?

leave em alone. They will find their way to the display naturally. In fact, they already have, you just haven't noticed yet.

I wouldnt touch it, there are practically no detramental effects that can come from a large mysis popuation. I dont know what kinda fish you have, but chances are they will eat them. And if you dont have a fish that eats them, maybe now is the time to look for one. Id be easy cause you'd barely have to feed the little guy!

Consider yourself lucky and not hindered to have this healthy popuation!

happy reefin'

I'm afraid that if i have too many, they will eat all the food and then starve and the entire population will die off.

they are crawling all over my sump....they go throught the bubble trap and some of them live in the skimmer portion of the sump.

what do I feed these little guys? they aren't as big as the shrimp that are sold frozen.

thanks,

CJ

CJ,

It will level off after some time... In my tank they went crazy and where everywhere (tank only... not really in the sump)... eventually they died down to a managable level (not all at once).

I've got a scooter blenny...so that is probably the reason why i'm not seeing any in the main display tank.
