Got caught in a suprise weather system about 125 miles E/SE of Atlantic City. Despite the forcast of 2-4 foot seas, we were dealing with 20-30+ foot waves that were crashing over the 44 foot boat. Took all night to get back to saftey, broke the boats tower in 3 places and washed away the cockpit door. It got real lonley out there. I still have nightmares about waves.

on duty oct31/nov1 2002. structure fire, incident commander told everyone to get out of the building (i was mad ) one minute after i cleared the building, the entire roof collapsed. .
24 hours later, i was watching my wife give birth to boy5 JoJo. needless to say, i DID NOT tell her for many months about the near miss.

the real life threatening situation was her giving birth to a 10.86 lb. boy naturally w/ no epidural, pain killers etc.
honey, please don't beat me again. i can't handle the pain.

Served on a fast attack submarine while in the Navy. We were down around 1000 feet and the flooding alarm went off. One of the seals on the main shaft failed and we were taking water on. Flooding on a submarine is not a fun experience, very high pucker factor.

Hmm, I got mugged when I was around 13, maybe 14, by 2 guys who looked around 18... So it was like this: I'm riding on my bike and about to pass those two guys when one of them swings around and punches me in the face. Next thing I know I'm on the ground while I'm being kicked by one guy while the other proceeds to mace me with some kind of pepper spray. True story.

Ok I'll play.. got a few..

Almost gun fight- About 2 years ago I lived in Phoenix.. I was picking a few friends up from a party.. Well a fight broke out in the street and we couldn't get the car by.. So we were waiting for the fight to be over and the guy who lost the fight pulls a gun... Well.. I just so happened to have good old Mr.Kimber 1911 on my side (ccw) and drew my wepon on him.. I informed him to drop his wepon.. nothing.. I yell again "Drop the -bad word here- gun!!!" He hears this and swings the pistol in my direction.. I find my sights and put them center mass.. He starts to level the wepon in my direction.. I click the safety off and bring my finger to the trigger, recheck my front sight and.... A man who lived next door to the party saw what was going to happen and tackels him to the ground... Wooohhhh.. way too close.. I grabbed one of those big zip-ties and bound the guy.. waited for police.. During that time I cleared his wepon.. and yep a round in the chamber and a full mag....

Ran a boat aground at night in Mexico.. Not very much fun.. Got off the rocks and had a nice 2 day trip back to port.. As we were pulling the boat onto dry-dock I fell off the fly-bridge and landed on the ground.. Somehow only hit the middle of my back... got up and walked around to make sure everything still worked.. It did.. Looked up.. wow I fell 18 feet!! The next morning I bus-train-planed my way home.. went to the doc and found I had crushed t-12.. So a broken back and $40k damage to the boat....

Rolled my truck 2 1/2 times while offroading.. the roof was touching the stearing wheel and the top of the driver seat.. Woke up and the truck was on fire.. had to crawl out the broken window that was now only about a 12"x12" glass linned hole... walked away but was cut very badly from the glass.. Almost bled to death...

But hey.. Better than being sucked into a powerhead!!!!!! poor goby

I thought my being hit by a fully loaded semi and witnessing a murder were scary. If there is a contest, you win.

I was in Phoenix.. It can get a litte "unfriendly" out there from time to time and AZ is a right to carry state. I always had a gun with me..
But I think our guys in the armed forces and fire/police have it much worse.... My hat is off to them....

Here are my stories.

Asthma Attack - Rushed to the hospital. Flat lined. Mother was called in to say her goodbyes because the doctors could do no more. Suddenly I started breathing again after my mother came in.

Hernia Operation - Flatlined there as well. Almost same senario as before. Except the doctor tried one last time

I had a regulator failure while diving in Cozumel. Down 90 feet, I tried to take a breath, and there was no air. Fortunately, I was close enough to my dive buddy (my spouse) that I could breath from her octopus before I drowned.

I got hit head on while I was doing about 65. It really wasn't all that scarry. I don't remember a minute or so before the wreck but from the moment of impact on it is very vivid. I actually only have like a still picture memory of the truck that hit me heading right at me. I remember hearing the crashing noise and thinking "I just got hit head on and I aint even hurt". The Nissan Pickup I was driving went into a uncontrolled left hand turn and everything was slow motion from there.

The windshield was shattered so I couldn't see. I was worried about getting hit by another car instead of thinking about where I was headed. The truck got airborn and when it came down the windshield fell out so I could see where I was going, right into the bank of a 20 foot deep bar ditch!!! When the truck got airborn I hit my head hard enough on the roof of the truck that everything went numb from the neck down but it only lasted a few seconds, that was probably the most scared I've ever been. Once that was over I didn't realise I was hurt for a while. An off duty EMT saw the wreck and stopped me from trying to get out of the truck, thank God.

It took them about an hour to cut me out of the truck and by the time they were ready to pull me out I figured out my right ankle was broken. When they went to lift me out I got a slght indication my left hip was broken when the bone ripped though the nerve bundle. I thought I was a tough SOB until the nerves got ripped. Actually other than that it wasn't all that traumatic, at least until I got to the hospital.

They were going to operate on my ankle and wrist which was also broken and I ended up aspirating in the mask. That was good for a week in a coma. I was asleep for that so no biggie but after I was operated on and brought out of the coma I had 2 blood clots hit my lungs. NOW THATS SPECIAL! It feels like you can breath in but not out. I turned about the color of a smurf for a few minutes each time but never passed out. Now I have a thing called a Greenfield filter in the artery running to my heart that is designed to catch and break up blood clots before they can do any damage.

One thing to remember is that there are things worse than death. There is a rehabilitation facility in Seattle called Seattle Medical and Rehab. I got sent there for a few months after I got released from the hospital. I would suggest an IRS audit while undergoing a proctology exam in jail before going to that place.
