Need Help with Ranco Controler

I got a 2 stage digital ranco controller, I want to use it to control my chiller and heaters, I need some help wiring it, would both outlets be wired to NO, or should I wire one to NC ?, if someone can eplain a little I'm sure I can figure it out from there, also do you put the temp probe in the tank right in the water?
any help would be appreciated.

hi

try this

Quote:
Okay inside the Ranco their should be 3 set of terminal strips.

First
Your going to need 1 extra piece of black wire and 3 extra pieces of white wire.

Connect the Black from all three plugs plus the extra black wires together with a wire nut.

Take the extra Black wire and connect it to the terminal strip in the top center of the controller - It is probably marked COM

Second - Twist the White wire from the plug that goes to the wall outlet to the three other white wires and twist with a wire nut.

Take the first white wire and connect it to the HOT terminal strip in the top center.

Take the two remaining white wires from the bug bundle ance connect a white wire to each of the terminal strips at the bottom. You want to connect them to the terminal that says NO - This stands for normally open.

Now take the white wire from the cord that goes to your heaters and connect it the C - Common) terminal on the terminal strip for STAGE 1

Now take the white wire going for the cord going to the chiller and connect it to the C - COMMON terminal on the Stage 2 strip.

Voila you are all done.

Now if something seems amiss email me a pic of the inside of your controller. I bought the 24V AC one but the insides and connections should be the same.

Good Luck

Dave

There is one at the top center -- You want to connect the white and the black wire from the plug that goes to the wall to that terminal strip.
them after that I connected the three green ones, which are ground, good luck,

sam

depends on where you bought yours, where you would have bought the unwired controller from, and how much you would have had to spend to wire it.

Thanks dberlin, thats a clear diagram I got it now, would you recomend putting the probe right in the water of the main tank?
will it hold up to saltwater?
the heater is in the fuge with about 400 gph of flow, the chiiler is inline with the same flow.

Your welcome!
Seal around the top of the probe where the wire goes into it with silicone and you'll be all set.

Make sure to give each wire a tug to make sure they are in right-they can go into the wrong spot on the relays and not get held by the screw when you tighten it.

I ordered mine from DIYreef. You do work cheap

15 bucks is worth all of the shipping costs and hassles to order the parts from various vendors, not to mention the price of trying to search for instructions on reef central and misc. parts costs.

If it was anything over $40 I would have been pi$$ed at myself for not doing it myself.
