Talking My hat is off to my girl

My hat is off to my girl

In Dec of 2004 my reserve unit was mobilized for an undetermined time not to exceed two years. I left my 65 gal reef with my fiancé for safe keeping not knowing how long I would be gone. She is the sweetest person in the world, but when I started to tell her how to take care of the corals she looked at me real funny and said “there is more in there than fish gee I never noticed. So in 3 days I was off to Ft. Bragg NC to do Army stuff for who knows how long only to get home for the occasional weekend. I have been deployed for almost two years now.

The beginnings were tough I was getting home at least one weekend a month and was getting my favorite sales person at the LFS (Fish and Other Ichthy Things) to come by and give a hand.
Thanks Kat!!!!!!!!!
Now 6 months have gone by and things are looking good, I get home for a weekend and take care of scheduled maintenance and she is good with a daily routine of feeding the FISH (what else is there?) adding RO/DI and B-Ionic.
Kat comes by and checks the chemistry, every thing is good.

Life is good and every thing is great the RBTAs have split and every thing is doing fine. So I get a great mission 3 months in the Bahamas, great diving; only I don’t get to come home and take care of the tank for 3 months.

Well that isn’t bad, only now as soon as I get back from being gone to the Bahamas for 3 months, we are going to Iraq for a year. Lisa my fiancée is a real sport and although she isn’t happy that Ill be gone for a year she doesn’t say a thing about taking care of the FISH. She has done a really fantastic job so far, so I decide to toss in a few more acro frags to let them grow out while I’m gone.

Now I’m in Iraq for a few months and I am dieing for a saltwater fix. So I call home and don’t ask about her or the kids straight to the point HOW IS THE TANK? OMG was that bad (LOL). I try to ask Lisa for some details and she has no clue as to what I’m asking, and then I say “You know the one under the Monti Cap she replies “the fish are doing great. So I ask her if I can get a few pics of the tank and am happy with that.

Well it is almost over (Ill be home in a few weeks WAHOOOO!!!!!!) and to make a long story short the tank looks great and with only a small overheating incident (I left a mess of wires under the tank and the heater got tangled up and got turned up) I lost all across but the Monti Caps “What? The fish are doing great. I could have only hoped I could have taken as good of care of the tank if I was there.

When I left there were 3 RBTAs and now there are 8, everything is growing out of the tank.

The pink skunks have just laid their first batch of eggs this week.

Not bad for having a reef dumped on your door step. I belive she has done a fantastic job with everything!

Thanks Lisa for being the love of my life and enduring my reef addiction.

Thanks Kat for the times I could not be reached.

If Lisa wasn't already your fiance I would suggest you hurry up and pop the question.

Looks like you found a keeper.

Well it was Kat that pointed out the eggs. She just looks at the fish
Ill be home in 3 weeks, do you think I can get her to start a greenwater and roti culture for when I get home and the skunks hatch?

Lisa sounds great, I'm not sure my fiancee would do that for me since she gets jealous of my fish and birds (they take up half my time) I'm sure she'd do it if I asked real sweetly though and gave her puppy dog eyesies and said "Do it for mwe?"

I plan on keeping her!

She even wants me to start a Frag Farm when I get back.

You gotta love that

looks like the first props will be the GSP, Antheilia, Zoos and sell a few RBTAs.

Rock on man, when you get back shoot me a PM, I'll give you some free nice sized frags for fighting for us.

The guys at icthy things kick butt, the nicest store in the tri-county area for sure.

Is there a possibility of multiple double posts? If so, then everything said up there, I totally agree with.

She's definitely a keeper. Especially if she wants you to start a Frag Farm. Though I think she is the one that secretly wants to start the Frag Farm. She is obviously more proud of you and your family, but you know deep down she is proud of herself to not only keep your reef tank going, but getting it to thrive is an accomplishment in itself.

I can't thank you enough for fighting over there for us. No matter what stories you hear and what negative feedback you get, people should realize you are there and you are there for us to stand up for what is morally right. Pro or Anti war, you're already there and having you come back safely is the biggest priviledge of all.

Boy am I proud of her for doing such a great job, and its a real good pic too.

By the color of the eggs it looks like I wont make it home in time to see them, but there is always the next batch.

Thank you all for the kind words, I am just a guy doing a job. Now lisa has taken on the imposible and and deserves all the credit for the tank.

Northtampatang: Ill do that, thank you. Ill be setting up my old 150gal tank with 100gal prop system when I get home. I am looking for a lot of SPS frags and hope to get home in time for the auction at Brian Greens. Is there a date for it yet?

And for the rest of you SHE IS MINE Im not letting go.

Wow, those really are some great looking RBTAs. Better size and color than anything I've seen in nearby LFS for $80.

Looks like Lisa did a great job keeping things up for you!
