How old is your system that you are seeing a lot of detritus in? I used to see a lot of poo, especially around where my GS Maroon used to hang out. I mean big piles & I thought I would never see the end of it. I had to siphon out every week, although I only did it every 2 weeks at first.

Now all conditions being the same it "magically" disappears. I have not siphoned or done anything in months & don't see any accumulation in the main tank. As if there exists some type of bacteria that break it down. I look for piles between rocks & around corners, but can't seem to find anything.

I also believe your starboard will act as a nitrate factory over time & with my next setup I am just going to spread some silicone on the floor of my tank & sprinkle & pound in some fine sand. Very cheap & easy.

do any of you guys have a dual wier/skimmer BB, where one is bottom fed and the other top fed, you have flow along the base to direct into the bottom fed wier and the top fed wier operates as normal. This effectively should mean less flow required in the system and better detritus removal. Each skimmer is independantly tuned for optimal removal. It gets the heavier gunk out of the system without having to suspend all matter.

Fast,

Is your a FO tank? I don't see fish ones, they disintegrate fast. Jus fresh snail poo... they remain still in its form about 1 day or so I believe... haven't seen them long enough to really know.

BTW, anybody has views with Ceriths snails. Do they efficiently process poo and what do they produce, liquid or solid? The ones found here prefer to stay out of water altogether.

Thx

Just curious..

yea, those things do a great job. You have to play around with 'em to cover the whole bottom of the tank. I think you could even put three penductors on that 55RLT, it keeps the pressure up so well.

my penductors on my pcx-55 do a good job, but there is always a pile of snail-poo.

I have my penductors aimed at the bottom, one in the back and one along the front.

I think Bomber's no longer subscribed to this thread. He disappeared and never answered my Doug question.

There's a thread I saw a while back that was: "Hurricane Katrina Vs. my 24G nano".
Trust me, the nano lost! How do you prepare your tank for that kind of thing? Build it inside a panic room maybe.

How about a panic building?

We're under another mandatory evac order, fifth this year.

So we're all boarding up, tying down, putting away, and turning off.

Marc, what story on Doug? He started out real small and cute about 12 years ago, grew to be big, old, and white headed.

Nor can I

But I'm thankful that at the end of a long hurricane season, they picked a name that cracks me up. That is, until I start seeing the devastation - which always kills the funniness

Wilma, huh. Can Xerxes be far behind? If we keep running through the alphabet every year we will run out of names starting with X reeeaally fast.

Good luck Bomber and other Floridians.

Aside: Wilma or Betty? Which Bedrock babe for you?

OMG. I had no idea that this thing had grown that fast to the biggest hurricane on record. The humor has definitely been blown away. Literally.

882 millibars is the new record. That's like the normal air density at 6000 ft.
