kill my 1 aptasia
Hi all. I've asked what it is and how to kill it before, and I even found a great thread on the new to the hobby forum, but I'm still not comfortable stabbing a needle through this thing. Needles give me the creeps.
Is there anyone close to NW 63rd St and Portland that wouldn't mind stopping by and showing me first hand? I hope this isn't too odd of a request. I don't do snakes or bugs either, but those shouldn't come up..  Stephanie |

Ive now zapped 3 aptasia with vinegar with no problem now. I just used the dropper pipette that came with my refractometer. Though I am still waiting to see a dead body of the aptasia.

Okay, I got my husband to do it. Although, while he was trying the thing receded into the rock. It was small though so maybe just spraying it with the vinegar will get it. It hasn't come back out yet.
I topped off my tank after and put it some buffer just to be sure it didn't lower my pH. Who around here carries Joe's Juice or is that online only? Thanks

I got some under water apoxy and scared the aptasia into its little hole and then covered the hole up with the apoxy.

If you only have one, I have a bottle of Joe's Juice. Pretty amazing stuff and it has immediate visible results most of the time. You might do better to get a bottle as they seem to reproduce frequently (and you may need to treat more than once). It may be months where you don't see any, then you'll see 2 or 3 in a week.
I have also superglued them in their hole before. The only problem with that is there may be more than one exit. I'm home evenings if it comes back. 330-2322 Tony aaparkr@swbell.net |

You can also get Joe's Juice at Crystal Clear Aquatics in Norman.
And maybe I am being foolish - but I have 2 large Aiptasia that have been in my tank for the last 3 months and have not spread at all. Perhaps the 2 peppermint shrimp I have are keeping them at bay. So for me, I find them to be just another form of life in the tank. Who knows, maybe I'll get home after work today and find that they have taken over the tank...

I bought a rock from Reef Shop with mushrooms on it..got it home and there was at least 3 Aiptasia Anemone's on it. I called them and they recommended squirting them with calcium.
I did this and haven't seen them since... not sure if it killed them or made them 'move'. |

Paul: Most likely your peppermints are eating any offspring but perhaps the big ones are too big. That happened in my tank....once I killed the bigs ones the peppermints took care of the rest. I LOVE peppermint shrimp...I had four, three females that regularly spawned and one very happy male! *big grin*
Kept my other fish looking great and provided free live food for them every so often. |
