looking for that one fish

Well, I'm starting to give up on looking for a jewel/mustard tang. Since I can't find that I'm interested in finding another fantastic looking tang. Unfortunately the most beutiful are always the most aggresive. So my choices are, purple tang, clown tang, sohal tang. I'm not so concerned about the health of these fish. I'm kinda cocky, and feel I can keep any fish alive. But I'm more concerned about aggresiveness. Here are some of the co-inhabitants that they'll have to live with. 2 female leopard wrasses, one blue star, one cook islands, 1 solon fairy wrasse, 2 false percs, 1 blue hippo, 1 chevron tang, 2 different firefish. Which of these 3 tangs would go best?

purple is the prettiest. I would consider a chevron also. Definitely mows through algae as well as being not to agressive.

with the peaceful list of fish you have there, I would definitely say purple...even in a real big tank I would not mix small tangs like the chevron with either a sohal or clown, not to mention the extremely shy firefish on your list.

if cost isnt an issue, go with a black longnose or gem tang (z.rostratum and z. gemmatum) ive been looking for a black for a while now.

Purple most definently for that mix. Once they get a good size, they're one of the most beautiful tangs out there too, imo. Juvis are cute too, but adults are stunning.

I don't care for uncolorful fish, and all black is as bad as it gets. As far as the gem is concerned, I saw a "cheap one" for $1200. I wouldn't say that no fish is worth that, maybe a dolphin or something , but not a gem tang. That's why I went after the jewel/mustard tang.

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that I tried a naso tang, and things didn't work out. I had it qt'd with the chevron for a few weeks in a 20g and they seemed to like each other. A few months in the 240g, the naso started to hide as the chevron made it its bit**! He picked at it all the time. So, I had to yank it. If I do get a purple, I want a deal. I see them from time to time for $39 at a local, so I'll jump at that. It's just I see all those pics on clown tangs and well

I have an almost identical fish list, though a sailfin instead of the chevron and i have a Clown tang also, so far a lovly temperment but he is the smallest of my tangs at about 7" and the sailfin seems to be the boss.
I agree that the Purple would be the 'safest' bet but i wouldnt right the other 2 off!
I think the Sohal are stunning but heard nasty stories about them so i went for the clown.
Since then (bout 18months) i have heard more or less the same stories about the clowns!! But not experienced any probs at all(touch wood).

My tank is a little bigger than yours at 360g, but they were all together in my 180g plus a lipstick (which i lost while on hols) for just over a year no probs!

I aint saying this is a trouble free tang or that my peacefull tank will remain this way, i am just offering my personal experience!

Your call mate, let us know which you decide on!

HTH

I believe they guarantee their fish for a week! not absolutley sure, but you should definitely check on this, cause the achilles is an attractive fish :bum

I just saw your tank specs...
You definitely have a big enough tank to house either the sohal or the clown tang, but not both... they are both extremely gorgeous fish, but keep in mind that once they're added, you may not be able to add any other fish in the future, cause they will assume control of the tank and will more than likely kill any later additions
