Hey Euro-reef members...
Haven't posted here in many months. I have a CS6-2+. Just a little tip for new owners of this great skimmer. Yes, I too, encountered problems w/my skimmer over flowing the cup for the reasons previously mentioned. This sucks when it happens. Here's a fool proof solution. Attach a needle air-valve to your venturi line. This will allow you to fine tune bubble size. Furthermore, should your skimmer go crazy and overflow, use your needle valve to shut off air supply completely. This will immediately stop over flowing your cup. Then slowly open the air valve and adjust to the desired level. It will start producing skimmate soon. Before I did this, I would have to wait 1-3 days before it settled down! Now, problems solve. Hope this helps. Jamie Of course, you need to empty and clean cup once it has overflowed. Last edited by reef & potito; 07/21/2005 at 12:57 AM. |

I'm considering the Euro for my skimmer for my 240....It will be moderately to heavily stocked....sump will be 125gallon sump and fuge will be another 125 gallons. Any suggestions as to what size skimmer to start looking at?

Question ~ when you have a power outage does your sedra pumps start back up Or do you have to pull it apart to get it going again (like I do ) ?

I unplug mine every few days when I empty the cup. It always starts right back up.

Dave...
Misread your earlier post. I,too, turn off skimmer before I remove cup. My earlier post is intended to provide a solution for when the skimmer goes "crazy". The needle valve connected to venturi allows you to instantly solve the overflow problem. No need to wait hours, days, for it to settle down. Restricting the airflow will do the trick and you can resume skimming immediately. |

Hey Bassman,
Put an air valve on the venturi to cut back the air intake till it settles down. |

oh, i guess i forgot to say. it is working fine now. I added an airvalve and kept opening more when needed then removed it all together. thanks for the help .

Well, i took the plunge! Pulled out the 6-2+ and put in a CS8-3+RC. This beast took up a little over half of my 50gal sump. In the next few days when it settles down I want to see how much improvement there is over the old unit. I figure with my bioload it couldnt hurt to have this skimmer, but time will tell if it was worth it.

thanks DerekW, i'll check them out. I would like to get better performance before having to break down to buy a bigger skimmer.

Without looking through the hundreds of posts on the split thread, can someone give me some recommendations.
I have a CS 8-2 with the Sedra 5000. I wnt to get more out of it without buying a bigger skimmer. What would be the best thing to do? 1. Add a second Sedra 5000. 2. Change the 5000 to the 9000? 3. Make it recirculating? 4. Other options? Please state why you think your idea is the best. Thanks |

causeofhim,
You could enlarge the venturi air intake hole by drilling it out. This is suppose to increase the amount of air therefore the amount of bubbles. Someone here has done it. I'm not sure about the size of drill bit though. Another idea would be to add the gate valve mod. This allows for a much finer adjustment and a wetter skim. I have heard that ER is suppose to be coming out with a new pump that will increase the air intake, but I'm not sure if the are available yet. I'll see ya Sunday! Don't foget the cheato. |

ER is supposed to have a new venturi coming out in the very very near future. it should increase performance by 50% or something they said

Will this new venturi work with a ES5-2 with a 3500 ?

Seems to be pulling out more crap, but haven't seen my nitrate numbers go down much yet....working on other issues regarding that at the moment, but I do like the skimmer...just a beast in size(takes up over half my 50gal sump.
