Another 200 starphire in wall

Well another thread has begun.
This 200 is to replace the 110 that is currently in wall.
New tank is 61X30X25.5 with the front starphire and the overflow external on one end.
Tank built by Aquarium Obsessed and has a 3/4" bottom, 1/2' front, back and one end with the overflow end being 3/4".
I know there has been threads that trash Will but other than being longer to get that first anticipated it is flawless.

For now I will post pic's in my gallery but over the next month I hope to update as I go.

Update

Well so far so good.
Day 1----Old tank and closet wall came out.
Poor fish didn't like the move to there temp home. Also took the time to dose each rock in a container with flat worm exit in it. Probably 3 times the recommended dose but after it came out I put the rock in the vat. Also took any rock that had apistaisia on it out and pressure washed them. For now that rock is sitting in the sun to dry.
Day 2--- consisted of wiring and some drywall. When I did my first tank I ran a dedicated 20 amp for the tank but put in way to few plugs and ended up with 3 power bars. Not this time--- there are 10 dedicated to the sump and 6 for the lighting.
Day 3--- mothers day so guess what__________not much done.
Finished drywall and complained how sore I was. I'm a manager at my place of employment and not very active. Not used to working with my aging body. hahahaha
Day 4---first coat of mud. Now this is not my cup of tea. I think I'm going to need 50 coats of mud and a applicator 3 feet wide. hahaha
Day 5---today---so far made the stand top using 2X6 and plywood. After this I'm off to the mud thing again.

More Pic's in my gallery.

Jim

P.S.--- am I having fun yet???? You bet your sweet a-- I am. this is better than work any day.

Today the glass box found it's new home

All that's left is to build a couple new sumps, plumbing for the return pump(Little giant 3) closed loop (Dart with OM revolutions) lighting and everything else.
Don't think I can afford that much time off. hahahaha [/IMG] [/IMG]

Well the water is flowing.
Started to flow water thru the system last night (or early this morning) and so far so good.
Overflow is working as I thought and is as quiet as a church mouse.
Still need to hook up the closed loop, reactor and lighting.
I will post pic's when I get the camera from work again.

Jim.

Ok more pic's
Poor shot's of rear of tank.
Return pump and closed loop pump located to left side under tank. Reactor and CO2 tank located to right. Sump on a raised platform at side of tank. [/IMG]
[/IMG] [/IMG]

Still need to hook up closed loop and lighting.
Going with 3-- 5 ft VHO's and 2- 250 MH

Also plans in the works for a 3 in 1 sump to fit on platform beside tank. (platform size is 43"X30") It will intail a fug at left wall side, main sump in rear and a frag section in front. Main drain to feed frag section skimmer to feed skimmer (go figure) and backup drain to feed small amout to fug but if main drain plugs all water will go thru fug. Hard to explain but it should work

More to come later

This shot shows water in overflow box.
Left ball valve is closed a bit to regulate water level in box.
Center valve feeds skimmer and is wide open. (not sure as the flow to skimmer yet but hoping for 300gph)
Right valve is wide open and not flowing any water as the level is just below the pipe in box.
When shuting down skimmer for cleaning or any reason the water overflows right drain and splashs into sump.
Now reason for this whole setup is. No splashing from water into overflow, very few bubbles to sump, and to feed the skimmer without a pump.

It is gravity feed with a reciculating pump.

Water enters skimmer at fitting on left top side of skimmer and the pump for now is a Sedra 5000.
I am going to build another skimmer some time soon that will have 2 Sedra 9000 and be the same 10diam main chamber but 6"to 12" taller.

Ya Tagareef the family room side has not changed as the new tank fit into the same opening as the 110 was in.
Only thing that changed was the extra foot of tank depth and no overflow box inside tank

This is a old pic.

Jim,

How often do you "clean " your glass? It looks spotless here but to be honest iu only scrape mine once a week and let the snails do the rest...some days are cleaner than others....

Looks awesome. May I ask a dumb question? What does the recirculating pump do? I'm not very good with the equipment aspect of the hobby so I'm here to learn.

No problem Chihuahua6
If you look at the pic above of the skimmer the water to the pump comes in from inside the lower part of the skimmer and the air is added then it's pumped right back into the skimmer. When water is feed to the skimmer slow (say 300gph) and a pump that can handle a higher volume of water (in my case 500gph) the water is processed almost 2 times before leaving the skimmer.
I'm not going into what is better but this is working for me at this point.

Man I forgot about this thread.
I'll try to take some pic's this weekend.
I guess a update is in store anyways--- So far so good as for the system. The closed loop turned out quite well providing lots of tank curculation. Still only have the 3 vho's over the tank but hope for the MH's in the next month or so.
Not to sure were I am going to go with the sump as I still have the 110gal that this tank replaced and a 100gal stock thank that I could use.

As for the outside the box overflow cward I don't think you'll go wrong with it.

Overflow question

Hey Jim,

I noticed in the pics of your overflow in your gallery that you have some sort of wire or screen set up. But, it's hard to tell from the pics exactly how it's held on. Can you give me a little info please? What kind of material is it made out of? Is there some sort of protective coating on it?

The reason I ask is I'm in the process of setting up a tank, and I'm working on the overflow right now. I'm planning on having an external, horizontal overlow and cutting slots in the tank for the spillway. Right now I'm debating whether I should cut many vertical slits, or a couple horizontal slits. If I got with the horizontal slits, I'd want them to be a decent height (3/4" - 1"), but then I would worry about fish getting into the overflows, so I'm thinking maybe I could just put a screen on it. I'm thinking something with 1/4" spacing or so.

Thanks,
-Mike
