Flashlight watching..

I have a white thing crawling on my class. I have never seen him before. I found him with a flash light, so I guessing he is nocturnal. He is the size and shape of a tic tac and has antenae, or some kind of fellers coming from his head. Anybody know what he is?

Isopod? Does it look like a pill bug or "potato bug?"

Or it could be a copepod... does it look like this?

If it's a copepod, that's a good thing.

It's hard to tell if that picture is a match for mine. It's obviously been magnified. My little critter is literally a white tic tac. Has the exact same size and shape. I could not noutice a lot of legs, but I know there are 2 antenna's coming from his head. Sorry about the vague description.

Any chance you could get a picture of it? That would help immensely.

Hmmmm....that's a toughy. I don't know if my digital camera will pick it up, but I can try. The other thing is I have to catch him wondering again. I'll be checking again tonight and will see what I can do.

I would say no. It had a smooth back. The amphipods I sam have ridges. The critter I have looks exactly like a tic tac, with antennas.

If it is a flatworm is it good, or bad?

Sounds like a small stomatella (SP?) snail. Should have a little off colored smooth shell on its back with two antennaes. I have a ton of them in my system. They are good.

If it is flatworms you need to watch them closely cause they can take over your tank.

You are correct. I must have been thinking of something else when I posted that.

amphipod-------> copapod. It seems to be a juvinile. they are gret if you have a mandrin. but if you want a madrin let your tank mature for a few months to get tons of those. They are not a threat in any way
