How to use a UV filter??? Any ideas

Hey there ppl

We are going to set up a UV filter but we don't know for how much time to turn it on, how does it affect the bacteria we use to feed our coral and featherdust worm, stuff like that.

I hope you can help us.

Later!!

If you are going to use it at all, I would run it 24/7. My reasoning behind this is that the UV is going to indesciminatly kill everything that goes through it (good and bad), so there is no way to lessen the effect on the good without lessening the effect on the bad.

I have one I ran it 24/7 for a couple weeks to clear up ICH. i don't use it regularly as it kills everything that goes through it, the good and the bad.

If you use one, then use it 24/7. Otherwise you just wasted your money.

Thank you all, we will set it to work for a whole week per month, i think that'll do to control any problem with bacteria.

We asre still wondering how fast the water should enter the filter so it can be sanatized properly, pondering this fact, we desided to use a medium pump, like 133 L (35 gal) per hour in the tank of 280 L (75 gal), we think it's ok cuz it's half the tank per hour and could clean everything up.

Let me know if i'm too high in the estimation or in lack of accuracy, ok??

Tahnk you all, later!!!

Do you know how many bacteria are on your tongue? Just because they are there doesn't make them bad...that and the fact that by adding a UV filter, you could be causing more virulent strains to emerge due to DNA damage. An ounce of prevention is worth a heck of a lot more than a quick fix...spend your money on some good food for your fish.
