here ill give you some info. if they are kept in warm tempatures they wont live long, they grow to be about 1', but they wont live that long since they live in cooler waters, they may nip at sessile inverts and corals, their scavengers, and they are non agreesive crabs, they are supposibly more related to the roach family

I'd avoid it. I have one that came with the tank when I bought it from the previous owner, and I've seen it a couple of times in the last few months. I know its still alive because i find the molted skeletons every once in a while. He stays buried in the sand the whole time.

the point of horshoe crabs is to sand shift and they are nocturnal, there really isnt a point of getting it unless you need sand sifting

I have had several Horse Shoe Crabs. They are quit entertaining in my opinion. Mine would hide in the substrate for so long then come out. Like dude above said they eat detrus, but they will also eat krill and such. If you have a reef I wouldn't recoment it, but for a tank w/ fish and rock it works out ok. And by the way since they have 8 legs they are related to arachnids not roachs.

One Foot? Heh.

I've snagged ones that were EASILY two feet long (not including tail spike) fishing in Delaware Bay (in water temps of about 55-60 degrees, mind you, which tells you something about keeping them in reef tanks) .they're a real PITA while mating because 2-3 of them will link up and you'll be snagged on 30 lbs of horseshoe crabs.

Cool

I've kept one in a cooler water tank before. They aren't seen very often though as they burrow through the sand.
