My 54 Corner RR - Dial-up Beware!

Okay, after many problems and almost getting out of the hobby, I sucked it up and went shopping for a new tank. My goal was to get something like an Oceanic 58, no center brace, drilled and compact size to fit in a corner. Well I came across a deal I couldn't pass up. The guys at Ocean Blue in Winter Park, FL, set me up with a great system. I will be running the following on the system.

54 Corner RR
Acrylic Bag Sump
EuroReef RS5-2
Mag9.5
Pair of SEIO 820's or 1100's
1-250W 20K XM
Some actinics, not sure which yet

I got my auto-top off last night from www.autotopoff.com, so all I need now is to plumb the tank and pick up my lighting. Here are some pictures.

Let me know what you think.

-Mac

Thanx...me too!

Yeah it was a nice upgrade. You don't see many of these tanks on RC but I think that is do to sump room, but thankfully I found one that fit perfect so I got it as well. Still room under there for ballasts, chemicals and so on.

Thanx! I love the tank. I am selling one on RC for a friend and when I saw his, I really thought hard about getting one but wasn't sure if they had good hoods for them, then I found this set-up!

that's a great choice for a smaller area, the depth from front to back will give you a lot of options.. keep us posted

That's great. I used to have a 58 corner and loved it. But like so many oceanic tanks, it decided to die after having it about 5 years.

I loved how nicely one can aquascape - either do a center island or have it shaped like a "valley" - rocks on either side and sloped downward to a valley, etc.

It's a great looking tank! And you already have the hardest parts: the hood and a sump that will fit!

I am curious Johnsteph10, what do you mean when you said: "But like so many oceanic tanks, it decided to die after having it about 5 years." I am asking because I have a Oceanic 58... Thanks

Mac, I'm looking to re-do my sump and also get a Euro Reef for my 54. How do you like that skimmer? Where did you get your sump? Thanks, Kellie

The ER skimmer is the best! When I had it on my 29 (before the tank broke) it was kickin butt. I had a ES5-2 on a 90 and it was doing a great job then I upgraded the skimmer on the 90 to a CS6-1. I have used many skimmers and I would say that ER skimmers are the best and most efficient skimmers on the market.

Do yourself a favor and get a RS5-2! The sump was purchased from my lfs.

Is the far left chamber of your sump for media filter?

No, it is a filter sock. I will run a sock, ER skimmer and that is it. This is the same type of filter I ran on my 90 and it worked great!

Oh yeah, I also picked up about 50lbs of live sand from a local reefer that tore down his tank.

Not trying to hijack your thread, MacnReef. I assumed you might be interested in the "5 year life" comment as well since you have an oceanic tank. I will pursue it privately at your request.
