You can go with one of the smaller triggers. I like the niger trigger because of it's (usually) even disposition. I tried keeping filefish once but found out the hard way that the ones I kept would only feed off arcoporia coral. They starved to death.

Cheers...Michael

Filefish are great & one of my favorites. I never seen 1 Aiptasia in my tank with a filefish, they love this stuff. Avoid the green spotted they are hard to feed but the others are good about eating. Wetweb is a great site to read on them & remember 1 file per tank.

mt lfs has a hawaiian redtailed filefish, its been their for months, no one has interest on it so they lowered the price to $15 us bucks, to bad i dont want it, their probly not hard to care for, they dont need alot of room neither since the redtailed file fish only grows up to 5 inchs or so

I had a green one it was in with inverts and shrimp with no problems I had it for about 2 years. I changed that tank over to a reef and even though it was in with softies before I was not sure how it would be with other corals, but I had no problem with that fish and softies, snails, inverts... I know its in a reef right now with no problems.

They will keep Apastia under control, I never seen one the whole time a file was in the tank and now I do see some here and there.

Hi

Just to help you out dont go with a trigger i think the can go mad in a small tank as there isnt enough swimming room. My boyfreinds tank currently has 3 file fish in it is 6x2x2 we have a tassle file, green file fish and a red tailed filefish also known as a blackheaded filefish we did also have a orange spot filefish which are quite hard to keep but if you can get one to feed on brineshrimp and can take the time to feed it it will do well in a fish only system are one did fine until it managed to get sucked up the powerhead but never mind we learnt to cover all the powerheads now. the tassle will grow to large but you could have a green file or a red tail both will be fine depending on tank mates. It is a risk with most inverts as will try to eat them but some do and some dont

Just thought i would share our experience

Thanks for the info. The local lfs has a red tailed, a tassle and one that lookes like the red tailed but is all light green. I like the look of the red tailed and he is about half the price of the tassle so i plan on getting him. Hopefully it doesn't snow to much today so i can go get him.
