Snails gone wild

I noticed that sometimes two snails would be "touching" each other. Almost like on top of each other.

What are they doing?

Get your mind out of the gutter man!

Actually IMO they are getting a free meal. Snails spend almost all of their time eating algae which makes thier shells prime places for it to grow (since their mouth cannot get to their own shell), and snails will eat it where ever they can find it (including the backs of other snails). You should see when my kole tang decides to clean the snails or hermits. Taking about a rude awakening.

hehe-thats funny..Actually I think Entropy is right. And i believe that snails are single sex organisms-so they wouldnt need a partner to make babies Could you imagine how hard it would be to get anything done with that darn shell on your back!

You will know when snails are laying eggs. Most of them put out a huge stream of white milky looking stuff that can quickly cloud the tank (especially if more than one goes at the same time). I have a picture of it somewhere...

My turbo's hate it when other ones climb on their back...they will actually stack themselves 3 or 4 at a time and the bottom one will twist furiously to get the others off of them. It's like a pig-pile!

LOL! Agreed, and the worst offenders seem to be margarita snails. They will pack 2-3 at a time on the back of a big golfball sized Mexican turbo snail.

actually if you are talking about snails sucking each other not their shells then i think it might be sexual reproduction... i saw my snails "boning down like china town" and now i have lil snails hanging around the tank....

snails like MAJOR BONAGE too!!!

My margarita snails are always on top of eachother and i often see streams of white stuff coming out of them! I can't wait to see little snails in there We have one tiny snail in there already, but i've only seen one and it must have came on the live rock or something because i don't think they would grow THAT Fast because we've only had our tank up for a few months!
