I am no engineer, but is it possible to vary AC current? If it is, then the seios and 660/6080 could both be "throttled" up and down....

All you engineers out there, help me out here.

i didn't take any close ups of the seio which i should have, but chuck is right. You turn the inner housing clockwise to make the slots smaller and reduce flow and counterclockwise to increase flow.

Hmmm,

I was thinking that aquaduck had something there, but I thought he knew that the Tunze stream 6060 and 6080 were run off of AC current and thus noncontrollable in the way that DC current can be modulated. I thought he had some crazy cool idea, but it doesn't seem that way. Oh well....

Peace,
John H.

Yeah, that sucks. Ithought I was onto something too. Someone mentioned the 6060 had a trimmer for adjusting the output and my wheels started turning. Not having ever seen a Tunze 6060 or 6080 I was relying on what others have told me.

does that mean that you cannot adjust AC current?

Changing the AC current cannot adjust the speed of sycronous motors. The only way to adjust the speed is to change the frequency and the only way to do that is with a lot of circuitry. A sweep generator, a pre-amplifier, and a power amplifier would be required to change the speed. It can be done but at great expense so you might as well get the Tunze with the DC motor.

Aquaduck: Only moderaters can completely delete a message... I agree that for a few moments after you post, we should be able to delete...! What you can do is edit the message and then delete all text and put only "ooops" or something.... The double posts happen to almost everyone once in a while...

just got my seio and tunze today.

first impressions, tunze isn't as refined and finished as i was expecting.

quite the opposite with the seio, it seemed very well built.

however proof is in the pudding i guess. will find out tonight.

its a 6060 (1600gph stream)

and 620 seio (620gph)

not fair to compare straight flow rate, but i will try and get a feel for which has better dispersion etc...

if the seio is as soft or softer than the tunze .... i might be replacing it with 2 620's

They turn pink/purple very quickly in water (Coraline Algea).

asmujica, i hope you got the discounted price. Marine Depot was honoring custom aquatics price when I ordered mine on Monday.

lololol ... the tunze is CRAZY

the force from 36" away on the tunze is equal to about the force 2" away from the seio.

the tunze is also quite a bit larger once you figure in the mounting bracket.

it seems like the seio has a smoother flow, which would be consistent with the differences in the impeller.

in my 40gallon 36" long tank ... i think the tunze is a little too much (even being barebottom sps only)

i think i will be buying a 820, and 620 to go with my 620.

anyone wanna buy a 6060 tunze? im not knocking the tunze at all, its just WAY too much for my tank.

while i have both pumps anyone want to know anything specific?

Tank size

what size tank do you have Unsped? I may have missed it in the thread. How much for the Tunze pump and brackets? Do you know if they can be converted to speed control, with a conversion kit?

It doesn't matter. They are all the same size except for the 6200.

MoonPod

Is the 6060 upgradeable to speed control?

My understanding is no. The speed control units are DC, the 6060 and 6080 are AC. We just had a discussion about this I think....

Thanks

Thanks Moon Pod, I did see that but in all of the excitement of the Tunze for sale I forgot. I am debating also getting a couple of the Seios also.
