About a 5 month sandbed

Hello Dr. Ron
I have enjoyed your writting for a long time now. I am happy you are here in RC to help us all.
In my 40 gallon breeder I have a 4" sandbed that looks lively to me. I am worried at this time about not having enough bristle worms and other worms that are so good at stiring it up at different depths. The tank has been going with the sandbed for 5 months and the rock I used to cycle the tank did not have much life when it comes to worms. I have many pods and spagettie worms but not much else that I can see.
Is it to late to add a dit kit or has dmamge been done to the sandbed? I hope I make sense. My english is not always the best. Thank you, James

Hi James,

It is never too late...

I normally recommend adding detritivore or recharge kits periodically as species will die out in our systems. Additionally, we often need to "recharge" things. So, if you think your system needs a boost, go ahead and do it. It can't hurt.

You might wish to order some good live sand with worms and such in it (but talk to the vendors to ensure they have the product you need) or one of the kits from some of the online vendors.

We all have to do this from time to time (as a matter of fact, I am hoping to order a recharge for my system within the week, myself).

can we get some more life in our sand by getting a bucket of sand from the beach?

Hi,

Only if your beach faces on to a reef.
