Question Which MH setup for an 85gal hex?

please help me decide which setup is better for my 85gal hex that i'm going to convert to a reef tank. the tank is approx. 28.5" tall, 34" from corner to corner, and 29" from one flat panel to the opposite flat panel. i want to be able to keep all types of corals but i will not keep any sps. i will mainly keep ricordia and polyps, but will have some lps corals such as hammers and OBs. i also would like to keep one to two clams in this tank. so i need your opinions on what MH setup for this tank... running a 20K bulb. either the XM bulb or the coralvue bulb. thanks.

hey there first off the tank is almost 30" tall and deoending on the DSB you are putting in the tank. I would go for the 400 w just of the depth ofthe tank.you say you are not goign to put no SPS in the tnak i had a 280 then switched to a 75 gal and guess what i have SPS now love them..

Any ways you dont need a dual MH setup in there i would keep the 20 k type due to having not to run actinic over the tnak .i love the 20k look and its cheaper and nicer to look at..

you can use the SUNBURST 14K bulb its pretty much the same bulbs if you look at them. half the price too.

the 250 mode you could do it to yiu may wanna get in to clams later to have them high on the reef if you ahve 250 but with 400 you dont have top have them high..JMO

HTH

Doesn't matter how much you have been reading , until you take the plunge. You don't know as much as you think..

would the dual 28w pc's even be seen with 400w of halide? just curious... becuase it just seems like the 400w of halide would drown out 56w of pc light.

yeah, i'm thinking that two 400 20k's are the best bet. either that or two 250 20k's.

The 400 pendant would give you the ability to do dawn dusk with the PC's and keep temp down by allowing more air flow around and under it. I would recomend a single 400 minimum due to the depth of your tank and should allow you to keep clams on the sand bed as some dont like the rock work.
