Mad Cow

Just curious what you think consumers re-action will be to the mad cow story? My business serves Ranchers and farmers so my opinion is probably a little jaded.o

It won't affect this consumer one bit!

But then, I'm not a beef consumer.

Us demand wont change at all, unless govt regulations come into play. International demand for US beef is going to be in the crapper for awhile.

The price of US beef is going to drop pretty severly, and us consumers are going to be buying alot more of it.

I guess I'm like a lot of people---I enjoy my steak and will continue to do so.

Slipknottin:
You are correct, prices are going to be under serious pressure today. Looks like I need to buy another freezer

for those that may know. a serious question......

if the prices drop dramatically. can i purchase the more expensive cuts and freeze them for later grilling outside? or do these cuts lose something by freezing long term?

there is nothing better then a freshly grilled steak.........

I haven't seen any mad cows, but I have seen some that were a little annoyed.

Can aged beef be considered fresh meat?

Invest in a vacuum sealer, like the Food Saver. It significantly increases the length of time refrigerated and frozen foods can be stored. Costco carries a good deal on one of their models.

Prices for beef may actually go up if radical quarenteening proceedures are enacted. This is a disease the government is not likely to take lightly. First, the obvious reasons of our public safety and secondly for the stability of the market.
If a second animal is found to have the disease, expect some massive exterminations and quarantining. You may be paying a good bit more, not less for your next steak.
As for fear of this disease, I'm going out for a steak for Christmas eve to show my support for the industry, hehe.

I had a nice 12oz ribeye on Xmas eve.

I hope the bottom falls out of beef prices. This time I WILL load my freezer with a couple of tenderloins and other delectable cuts.
The price was starting to get stupid anyway.

What's with this $40/# Kobe beef crap anyway? Give me a break. I can buy fresh sea scallops and huge lobsters etc for that kind of money.

Buy McDonalds stock while it is down.

What I want to know is why did the FDA let this brain laced feed slip through? And why can't anyone figure out exactly where these meat products were delivered? Something is really amiss here. This could have been prevented. A few years back, a hospital in my area (won't mention name) took in a patient who had vacationed in Europe who ended up with CJ and died. It was kept hush for a reason. But the Brittish wanted to keep their CJ problem cool. What's the count now... 135 over there? What gets me is you may have CJ for 6-7 years before being symptomatic. When I know they've gotten rid of those cows who ate the same brain laced feed and US rules are actually followed, then I'll eat what moo's.

If you have to ask, means you haven't tried it.

Imagine dry aged USDA prime kicked up quite a few notches.
