Controlling mushrooms
OK, Not having much luck getting the red mushrooms out of the tank. Kalk irritates them but doesnt seem to kill them. What if I tried to corral them with LPS, like torch coral or hammer coral, something that could reach out and sting them, presumably killing them or keeping them from spreading. Sounds good in theory. Do you think it would work?

cut them and sell them.

Im trying to avoid that. I would have to pull out/move a lot of rock and, in the process, would probably unintentionally frag a lot of coral. It may come to that though.

Would killing them via a coral war put toxins into the water?

The mushrooms will win a war. Cutting will cause them to spread. Thick kalk paste, heated to near boiling in microwave, worked for me. Gotta get it into the mouth/stem for it to work though, and thick kalk paste of course cruds up a syringe fairly fast, but a large guage medical syringe will pierce the stem and will work if the kalk solution is super-saturated and hot.
