Shrimp in Overflow

What can I cover my overflow with that will prevent my peppermint shrimp from getting in there? I have eggcrate over the top and that prevents the snails from climbing into the overflow but my peppmint shrimp must have figured out how to go through the openings because 3 times now I have found him in the sump.

If you can find some bridal veil, that might work. I think it is called thulle in craft stores. It may get gunked up with algaes and it may need replacing every so often.

I use a small section of fiberglass screen that I got from my local HD. It's over by the screens and may be called pet screen. The only downsides are that it restricts flow (but not as much as you'd think) and that you need to check it frequently to make sure that it doesn't clog.
