lightless cycle...
can you cycle a tank with no lights or will it mess with the system? the only reason i want to do it with no lights is to keep the algae growth down but i'v never dont that before.

instead of no lighting at all, go for a reduced photo period instead. There are photosynthetic things living on your rock that will need light in order to make it through the cycle, like coralline algae, and possibly macroalgae and hitchhiker corals.
